**OVERVIEW** ------------ Parent Sector : Culture Sector (CLT) Duty Station: Doha Job Family: Culture Type of contract : Non Staff Level : Level 3 Duration of contract : 1 year Recruitment open to : Internal and external candidates Application Deadline (Midnight Paris Time) : 28/02/2021 UNESCO Core Values: Commitment to the Organization, Integrity, Respect for Diversity, Professionalism **OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST** ----------------------------------------- As part of its EU-funded project “Cash for Work: Promoting livelihood opportunities for Urban Youth in Yemen”, UNESCO GCC and Yemen Office are implementing a range of activities aimed at supporting large-scale urban rehabilitation works, youth-led cultural programmes, and services as well as communication and awareness-raising activities on cultural heritage and creative industries. The project focuses on three World Heritage Sites in Danger (Sana’a, Shibam, Zabid), as well as in the historic city of Aden, and aims at employing 4.000 young women and women over a period of 500,000 cash working days. As of January 2021, over 100 historical buildings were stabilized, over 1000 youth are employed and more than 500 youth benefitted from small grant programmes for cultural projects. Within this work, UNESCO GCC and Yemen Office are seeking the support of a Project’s Assistant to help with the follow-up of the urban rehabilitation works and cultural programming components, as support operations’ alignment with rehabilitation standards, project’s targets, and indicators. **TASKS AND EXPECTED OUTPUTS** ------------------------------ Under the overall authority of the Director of the Office, and direct supervision of the Project Manager, the incumbent will serve as Project Assistant and help to identify needs, plan, implementing, monitoring, evaluating and providing technical support for the project. In particular, s/he will be expected to perform the following responsibilities: • Contribute to the preparation of programmatic documents related to cultural heritage management, urban planning and cultural programming (concept notes, technical assessments, call for proposals, research notes, etc.) and provide inputs to periodic statutory reports and documents on project’s activities; • Assist in project’s implementation by supporting strategic planning and weekly follow-up with implementing partners, synthesizing data and information received from the Field (livelihoods enhancement, urban rehabilitation, cultural industries), evaluating outputs, drafting follow-up correspondence; • Assist in organizing project’s meetings (steering committee, technical workshops, visibility events) as well as capacity-building and consultation workshops for the sustainable urban management of historic cities and the promotion of cultural and creative industries; • Help information sharing amongst stakeholders and support remote coordination for the timely execution of the programme; • Support the elaboration of contents and implementation of innovative online/offline initiatives to enhance awareness-raising and project’s visibility in the region and beyond, including drafting documentation for events (agenda, lists of speakers, creative format, etc.) as well as resources for the project’s website; • Assist with any additional activities as assigned by the Director of the Office and the Supervisor when required. **COMPETENCIES (Core / Managerial)** ------------------------------------ Accountability (C) Communication (C) Innovation (C) Knowledge sharing and continuous improvement (C) Planning and organizing (C) Results focus (C) Teamwork (C) **-** ----- For detailed information, please consult the [UNESCO Competency Framework](https://en.unesco.org/sites/default/files/competency_framework_e.pdf). **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS** --------------------------- **Education:** Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) preferably in the field of Urban planning, Cultural Heritage, Museums and Heritage Management, Cultural Development, or similar discipline with 4 years of relevant qualifying work experience. An advanced university degree in the relevant field in combination with at least 3 years of relevant qualifying experience might be accepted. **Work experience:** • Relevant professional experience in the field of urban planning, cultural heritage management, cultural development or museums’ policy and development, of which at least 1 year acquired in the region and/or international level would be an advantage. • Experience in working on cultural projects in Yemen and the region is preferable. • Knowledge and experience with the UNESCO Culture programme or relevant programmes carried out by sister UN entities would be an advantage. • Former experience in dealing with EU-funded programmes would be an asset **Skills/Competencies:** • Good analytical, organizational, and project management skills. • Excellent coordination and interpersonal skills. • Capacity to build and maintain effective working relations with national/local authorities, relevant institutions, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations. • Proven ability to communicate and negotiate effectively and persuasively (orally and in writing) with various stakeholders at all levels, within and outside of the Organization. • Ability to work effectively in a team and to function within a multi-cultural environment. • Solid IT skills of standard Office software (knowledge of specialized software in the domains of architecture, museums, or GIS would be an advantage) **Languages:** • Excellent knowledge (written and spoken) of English. • Knowledge of writing and speaking Arabic would be an asset. **SELECTION AND RECRUITMENT PROCESS** ------------------------------------- Please note that all candidates must complete an on-line application and provide complete and accurate information.
