Women and girls in Upper Egypt, particularly in rural, poor, and less advantaged areas in the governorates of Assiut and Sohag, face obstacles in accessing their economic and social rights. The Project entitled the Socio-Economic Empowerment of Rural Women in Assuit and Sohag aims to address those multiple challenges through the implementation of a series of comprehensive and integrated activities. The project will partner with the Egyptian Government and including the National Council for Women and its local branches as well as to rural women as agents of change in key governorates. The overall objective of the project is to empower women socially and economically in the target areas in Assiut and Sohag, particularly rural women. The expected impact of the interventions in Assiut and Sohag is (a) Women have improved access to gender-responsive services and actively participate in public life; (b) Women are economically empowered through enhanced participation in MSMEs, productive clusters and market linkages. This project is made possible through the support of the Government of Italy.

Based in Cairo, and under the supervision of the UN Women Programme Specialist for women’s economic empowerment, the UN Volunteer Youth will be responsible for supporting the implementation of the project for the “Socio-Economic empowerment of Rural Women in Assuit and Sohag”. Specifically, the UN Volunteer Youth will be tasked with:

1.Provide technical support and backstopping to the monitoring and reporting of the project: • Support the development and implementation of the annual implementation plan under the project. • Support the monitoring and reporting on progress in the implementation of the project, using results-based management tools and systems of UN Women, and in accordance with UN Women and the donor’s agreed-upon corporate M&E requirements. • Support the establishment of clear baselines and means of verification for the project. • Support the capture of the project’s impact through the development of human interest stories. • Draft and contribute towards monitoring tools under the project, including progress reports, mission reports. • Support capacity development of UN Women’s implementing partners to effectively monitor for results and capture impact; • Provide administrative support in the preparation of the Project’s implementation plan, partner work plans, budgets, and proposals on the project’s implementation arrangements; • Provide technical guidance to the UN Women Egypt Country Office (ECO) and executing agencies on routine delivery and reporting of the Project’s supported activities and finances; • Prepare information for the audit of the project’s partners and support implementation of audit recommendations; • Identify sources and gather and compile data and information for the preparation of documents, guidelines, speeches, and position papers.

2.Enhance UN Women partnerships under the project at the national and local level: • Support enhancing local and national level partnerships in support of the project’s goals, with particular emphasis on supporting local level partnerships with government, civil society and private sector; • Support national-to-local peer mentoring and support around women’s empowerment -including social norm change - in close coordination with the Project’s main stakeholders. • Provide technical inputs to the development of annua workplans and budgets; • Lead the implementation of prevention activities in line with the set work plan; • Prepare Terms of Reference for consultants; • Lead the coordination of requests for proposals, including the organization of technical review committees and capacity assessment of partners;

3.Provide substantive inputs to advocacy, knowledge building and communication efforts: • Develop background documents, briefs and presentations related to the project; • Coordinate and organize advocacy campaigns, events, training, workshops, and knowledge products; • Ensure compliance with donor visibility guidelines and communication of results.

4.Provide administrative support to the financial management of the Project – Following on training provided by UN Women, to: • Create projects in the UN Women ECO’s financial management on-line system – Quantum - and prepare budget revisions, revise project awards and status; and determine unutilized funds and the operational and financial close of a project. • Provide administrative support in monitoring budget preparation and the finances of programmes/projects; including the finalization of financial forms submitted by project partners (“FACE forms”); • Review financial reports; prepare non-PO vouchers for development projects; • Process payment for consultants; • Maintain internal expenditures control system; • Create requisitions in Quantum for development projects; register good receipts in Quantum. • Assist in the preparation and follow up of cost-recovery bills in Quantum

project support or development; experience on women’s empowerment and/or local development is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization; at the national and/or international level. •Excellent oral and written skills in both English and Arabic; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills; •Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing; •Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development; •Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; •Interest and affinity for travel to the field and working with community-based authorities and organisations; •Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment; •Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines; •Sound security awareness; •Have affinity with or interest in gender equality and women’s empowerment, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.

UN International Specialist Volunteer gets the following package:
