Background Information - Job-specific

The United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) is mandated to provide administrative and logistics support to its partners in implementing the United Nations Security Council resolutions on Somalia.

UNSOS intends to establish a Business Process Improvement and Innovation support project that will help fast track primarily the short, medium, and long term improvement of the existing Human Resources (HR) processes, among other critical processes (i.e. non-Umoja processes) identified by an internal review and approved by the mission leadership for implementation. Under the overall supervision of the UNOPS Senior Programme Manager and the guidance of the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), the Programme Management Specialist (Business Process Improvement) will serve as the primary focal point for the Mission’s implementation of a set of recommendations made in the HR Section’s Business Process Improvements report to improve HR processes, including some key internal process and product improvements resulting from an internal self-assessment. In the performance of his/her duties, the incumbent will be required to collaborate with external partners and stakeholders, notably Chief of Operations and Resource Management (ORM), Office of the Director of UNSOS, and Director of Missions Support (DMS) /United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM).

Video topics should cover HR policies and related system procedures as well.

  • Support Hiring Managers to complete key and mandatory programmes, including training focused on their system roles, e.g. Manager’s Self-Service (MSS) courses for Umoja and Inspira hiring manager courses.

  • Consolidate and train users in the pillars/sections on best practices to standardise and adopt one tracking system for monitoring recruitment and other HR functions.

  • Build on ongoing efforts to establish a system of Business Intelligence (BI) for HR, to track and report on key Mission Leadership Compact imperatives; and for self-monitoring and accountability.
