Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-HABITAT, is the United Nations agency for Human Settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. In October 2016, at the UN Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development – Habitat III – member states signed the New Urban Agenda. This is an action-oriented document which sets global standards of achievement in sustainable urban development, rethinking the way we build, manage, and live in cities. Through drawing together cooperation with committed partners, relevant stakeholders, and urban actors, including at all levels of government as well as the private sector, UN-Habitat is applying its technical expertise, normative work and capacity development to implement the New Urban Agenda and Sustainable Development Goal 11. The Programme Coordination Unit (PCU) was created to ensure more effective coordination and monitoring of the different portfolio of UN Habitat projects in Somalia and to have a greater coherence in the programmatic implementation and achievement of the Somalia Programme’s objectives. The unit act as liaison and focal point for contributing to corporate knowledge management and reporting requirements. It also contributes to improved visibility and public image of the Somalia Programme. RESPONSIBILITIES Under the overall coordination of the Senior Human Settlements Officer/Head of Country Programme and the direct supervision of the Associate Programme Officer (Valarie Nyabera), the Individual Contractor will be responsible for the following: • Develop contractual documentation for local staff and consultants, for example developing evaluation matrixes, putting together recruitment documentation and follow-up in the recruitment process. • Develop Agreements of Cooperation and all other legal instruments applicable in the implementation of the Programme and project activities for the Somalia Programme. • Regular update the Agreements of Cooperation monitoring tracker. • Quality assurance of submitted reporting documents by Implementing Partners. • With the support of the ICTS office, set up on new user accounts, laptop assignment and troubleshooting of system and network problems. • Ensure adequate and efficient support services for all meetings and conferences held in Nairobi and Somalia

Qualifications/special skills

University degree (BA. or equivalent) in business studies, development studies, international relations or any related fields is required. minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management and coordination or related areas is required Experience working in international organizations is highly desirable Experience working in post-conflict countries is highly desirable

Languages

Fluency in oral and written English is required.
