(Duration of contract: 9 months renewable for an additional period of 6 months subject to availability of funds and satisfactory performance.) **OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST** ----------------------------------------- Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for Culture, the general supervision of the Chief of the Living Heritage Entity and the direct supervision of the Programme Specialist in charge of the Statutory Support within the Programme Management Unit of that Entity, the Contractor shall assist the Secretariat in facilitating a global reflection on the listing mechanisms under the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (hereinafter called “the 2003 Convention”), following Decisions 13.COM 6 and 13.COM 10 adopted by the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (hereinafter called “the Committee”). The timetable for the reflection process, initially set out by the Committee and adjusted due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, includes a consultation with experts to be followed by a meeting of the open-ended intergovernmental working group in July 2021 (TBC). The sixteenth session of the Committee, to be held in December 2021, will provide further opportunity for intergovernmental discussions on this topic, bearing in mind the request by the Committee to finalize the reflection in time for the ninth session of the General Assembly (2022) in order to discuss revisions to the Operational Directives. The consultation with experts itself will follow a two-steps process: an online survey to be followed by two plenary online meetings in April and May 2021 which is considered as the second step. The Contractor shall more concretely assist in: • collating the results of the online survey concerning the global reflection on the listing mechanisms through which experts in the field of intangible cultural heritage are invited to provide their views on the main challenges identified so far concerning the listing mechanisms, as well as on possible approaches for finding solutions and preparing them for analysis; • logistically organizing the online meetings of the experts and the open-ended intergovernmental working group, in collaboration with the Communications, Cities and Events Unit (CLT/CCE); • preparing templates and formating and, when appropriate, dissiminating correspondance, technical notes, documents, scenarios and presentations, as well as entering information in the database of the 2003 Convention necessary for the preparation of webpages of the meetings, and ensuring the publication of information and working documents in English and French; • informally translating correspondence and documents from either French/English into the other language and assist in the parallel reading to check linguistic coherence between these two languages for documents and correspondance related to the reflection of the listing mechanisms under the 2003 Convention; • responding to queries from relevant stakeholders in particular experts, States Parties, Committee members and UNESCO colleagues within and outside the Entity regarding the reflection process; • liaising with the Administrative Unit (CLT/AO) for the preparation and monitoring of obligations relating to the meetings and other activities undertaken to support the reflection process. • completing any other task, as requested, to support the work of the Programme Management Unit. **COMPETENCIES (Core / Managerial)** ------------------------------------ Communication (C) Planning and organizing (C) Results focus (C) Teamwork (C) **-** ----- For detailed information, please consult the [UNESCO Competency Framework](https://en.unesco.org/sites/default/files/competency_framework_e.pdf). **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS** --------------------------- ***Education*** • Completed secondary, technical and/or vocational education. ***Work Experience*** • At least 3 years of professional experience in supporting programmes and projects in fields related to culture. ***Skills/Competencies*** • Excellent interpersonal skills in multicultural contexts. • Good time management skills. • Ability to work under pressure. • Excellent IT skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). ***Languages*** • Excellent knowledge of English. **DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS** ---------------------------- ***Work Experience*** • Experience in programme support at an international level. ***Languages*** • Very good knowledge of French, both written and oral. **SELECTION AND RECRUITMENT PROCESS** ------------------------------------- Please note that all candidates must complete an on-line application and provide complete and accurate information.
