UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. The project “UN in Support of Peace and Security in the Great Lakes Region” is a UN joint project of 4 Agencies, UNDP, UNFPA, UN WOMEN, and the Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for the Great Lakes (OSESG-GL). It seeks to support the International Conference of the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) in the implementation of the Pact on Security, Stability and Development in the Great Lakes with a specific focus on the Protocol on the Prevention and Suppression of Sexual Violence against Women and Children. The Programme Analyst works with and provides support to the Regional Adviser for Governance, Women, Peace and Security in the development and implementation of effective programmes consistent with UN Women rules and regulations. S/he contributes to research, financial management, and programme implementation including providing necessary operational, administrative and programmatic support. The Programme Analyst works in close collaboration with the operations, programme and project staff in the Regional Office and UN Women HQs as required for resolving finance related issues, exchange of information and programme implementation. She/he will work under the direct supervision of the Governance Women, Peace and Security Adviser and in close collaboration with other Units in ESARO.

Under the direct supervision of the Regional Adviser for Governance, Women, Peace & Security, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

• Support in the formulation of Programme Strategies; • Programme Management support; • Administrative and Financial Management Support to the Programme Unit; • Facilitation of Knowledge Building and Knowledge Sharing. Support in the formulation of Programme Strategies: • Collect and present background information for the preparation of effective application of RBM tools; • Provide programme and administrative support in the preparation of programme work plans, budgets, and proposals on programme implementation arrangements; • Assemble briefing materials and prepare power-point and other presentations for the Re-gional Adviser; • Identify sources, and gather and compile data and information for the preparation of doc-uments, guidelines, speeches and position papers. Programme Management Support: • Support the Regional Adviser in the implementation of the control mechanisms for devel-opment projects through monitoring of budget preparation and modifications: • Support organisation and implementation of the programmatic and policy advice; schedule partner meetings, maintain an updated data bank of partners and experts, record minutes of meetings and liaise with relevant UNW project partners and country thematic teams: • Support efforts for resource mobilization, including programme development as well as as-sociated communication material; • Revision of project activities, outputs in the RMS; • Support Donor reporting and monitoring and reporting; • Provide guidance to the executing agencies on routine implementation of projects, tracking use of financial resources; • Provide necessary information for the audit of programmes/projects and support imple-mentation of audit recommendations; • Organize, compile and process information from donors, Country offices, Regional Office, and other relevant programme teams, as inputs to various databases and documents; • Support the Regional Adviser in the tracking and reporting on mobilized resources Administrative and Financial Management Support: • Support the Regional Adviser in the financial management of Programmes. • Create requisitions in Atlas for development projects and register of goods receipt in Atlas; • Take charge of logistical support and services, including travel for the advisor and imple-menting partners; • Organize, compile and process information and record management, including pro-gramme-related filing; • Support in the creation of e-requisitions, voucher verification and purchasing for travel, meetings and new vendors; • Provide organizational support to the advisor.

Facilitation of Knowledge Building and Knowledge Sharing: • Ensure information and updates are shared with partners and relevant thematic networks; • Support synthesis of lessons learnt and best practices related to programme management; • Support synthesis of lessons learned and best practices in programme finance; • Sound contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice Results/Expected Outputs • Timely and quality inputs to programme design • Timely and quality inputs to workplans and budgets • Adherence to UN Women standards and rules • Timely monitoring and tracking of programme results and finances • Quality maintenance of internal systems. • Accurate analysis, data entry and presentation of information to ensure proper programme implementation.

The Republic of Kenya is an equatorial nation on the coast of East Africa, neighboring Somalia, Ethi-opia, Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania, and the Indian Ocean. Kenya has two levels of Government; Na-tional Government and 47 sub-national Governments called Counties. Counties are further divided into sub-counties. Kenya is a multi-party state with Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches. Kenya’s population of more than 40 million is growing at an annual rate of 2.2%. The country’s GNP per capita estimated at purchasing power parity (PPP) is $975, and the GNP is growing at an average rate of 0.1% annually. More than 26% of Kenya’s people live below the international poverty line of $1 per day. Kenya’s main food crops are “maize, wheat, pulses, roots and tubers.” (FAO). Nairobi is a modern metropolitan city where most basic goods and services, health facilities, public transport, telecommunication and banking services and educational facilities are readily available. The city is widely connected through its main airport, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and the smaller Wilson Airport. Air transport is also available to many up-country destinations. The city is home to some 3,000 UN personnel mainly attributed to the fact that it serves as the headquarters for both the UN HABITAT and UNEP. The socio-economic and cultural background of the immediate society the UNV would be living and working in is diverse and prevailing security conditions at the place of assignment is modest. The topographic and climatic features of the assignment location is highland cool and warm tropical climate.
