Contract

This is a P-3 contract. This kind of contract is known as Professional and Director staff. It is normally internationally recruited only. It's a staff contract. It usually requires 5 years of experience, depending on education.

Salary

The salary for this job should be between 139,444 USD and 182,591 USD.

Salary for a P-3 contract in Geneva

The international rate of 74,649 USD, with an additional 86.8% (post adjustment) at this the location, applies. Please note that depending on the location, a higher post adjustment might still result in a lower purchasing power.

1. Organizational Context

  1. Organizational Setting

The post is located in the Global Health area (of work) of the Global Challenges Division, whose objective is to strengthen WIPO's position as the leading intergovernmental forum for addressing the intersection between intellectual property and global public policy issues.

The Division engages substantively with other UN and intergovernmental organizations, the private sector and civil society in order to lead and inform policy deliberations. It develops practical contributions to demonstrate the benefits of intellectual property in the search for solutions to major challenges facing humanity, including global health, climate change, and food security.

  1. Purpose Statement

The incumbent is part of a multi-disciplinary team and supports the responsible officials in managing WIPO Re:Search, a multi-partner initiative that provides access to intellectual property-- including pharmaceutical compounds, technologies, know-how and data-- for research and development around neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), tuberculosis, and malaria.

The incumbent works under the supervision of the Head of Global Health.

  1. Work Relations

The incumbent will regularly work across the Division and Sector, as well as with a broad range of WIPO colleagues in other Sectors. The incumbent will also work extensively with external partners, including WIPO Re:Search co-conveners, WIPO Re:Search member institutions and other UN agencies, including the Trilateral Cooperation among the World Health Organization (WHO), WIPO, and the World Trade Organization (WTO).

2. Duties and Responsibilities

The incumbent will perform the following principal duties:

a. Support WIPO Re:Search, including maintaining coordination with Consortium co-conveners, ensuring regular contact with WIPO Re:Search member companies, developing webpage content and continuously improving WIPO Re:Search webpages, taking the lead in planning and coordinating WIPO Re:Search-focused events, and monitoring implementation of the WIPO Re:Search strategy and associated activities;

b. Engage in and support Trilateral Cooperation activities on policy-related issues at the intersection of Global Health, Intellectual Property (IP) and Trade, including those specifically directed towards the WIPO response to COVID-19, such as maintaining current information on the web pages, supporting interaction with Member States, ensuring on time delivery of key project elements, etc;

c. Conceptualize, design, and implement highly innovative initiatives and projects involving external parties to address global health issues, including the response to COVID-19. Design and support systems for project monitoring;

d. Assess developments, challenges, and issues in global health, and provide analysis and advice to the Head of Global Health on areas presenting an opportunity for further development, taking into account economic, social, and political conditions;

e. Manage the production of reports and publications related to WIPO?s work in the global health space, ranging from news items to Global Challenges Briefs and global health studies;

f. Manage and support proactive engagement and promote WIPO coordination with governmental, NGO, industry, and other stakeholder groups on global policy challenges related to health, including organizing global-health focused seminars and side events. Identify and support measures to strengthen institutional relations and build sustainable partnerships;

g. Initiate, manage and support coordination with relevant Divisions across WIPO to share knowledge and identify communications opportunities within WIPO's global health-related activities;

h. Perform other related duties as required.

3. Requirements

Education (Essential)

A first-level university degree in international relations, health, law, regional studies, or other relevant discipline.

Experience (Essential)

At least six years of progressive professional experience in policy analysis, project design and implementation, advocacy, and public-private partnerships, with a strong focus on global health, preferably in both an international and corporate environment. An advanced university degree in a relevant area may be accepted in lieu of two years of experience.

Demonstrated record of establishing and managing multi-sectoral partnerships related to intellectual property and public policy issues, preferably in global health.

Experience (Desirable)

Experience working in a developing country.

Demonstrated record of producing a broad range of global-health focused publications.

Exposure to the private sector and/or a UN organization, preferably in the area of global health.

Demonstrated record of implementing online platforms and ease with IT-related processes.

Experience with project management methodology, ideally PRINCE-2.

Language (Essential)

Excellent written and spoken knowledge of English.

Language (Desirable)

Knowledge of other official UN languages.

Annual salary:

Total annual salary consists of a net annual salary (net of taxes and before medical insurance and pension fund deductions) in US dollars and a post adjustment. Please note that this estimate is for information only. The post adjustment multiplier (cost of living allowance) is variable and subject to change (increase or decrease) without notice. The figures quoted below are based on the October 2021 rate of 81.4%.
