Job Description

Job Overview/Summary:

The Program Coordinator assists refugees and other qualified immigrants with maintaining compliance with their Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) benefits through ensuring clients know the requirements of TANF, providing clients with opportunities to fulfill the requirements, and coordinating with clients and employment specialists to collect and input their mandatory weekly activities for compliance.

Responsibilities:

· Coordinates with all work participation eligible clients and their employment specialists to collect weekly time sheets/proof of income and inputs the data into the MD Works database.

· Meets with all eligible clients to create their Family Independence Plan (FIP) and works closely with their employment specialist to ensure the FIP aligns with their individual employability plan.

· Conducts Understanding Your TANF Benefits Trainings with all clients and provides supplemental resources geared toward understanding social service benefits; serves as a point person for technical expertise on TANF benefits with clients and the team.

· Coordinates client attendance and efficient operation of weekly Vocational English as Second Language (VESL) classes administered by partner organization.

· Refers clients to English as Second Language (ESL) classes administered by local community colleges.

· Works with the local American Job Center and other training providers to facilitate access to vocational trainings and drafts SOPs for enhanced refugee access.

· Maintains and builds partnerships with local volunteer agencies and creates effective referral processes for clients to attend the opportunities; matches and supports clients with accessing these opportunities.

· Other duties as assigned.

Requirements****:

· A bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited institution is strongly preferred.

· Strong communication skills, both written and oral.

· Attention to detail and accuracy in work product.

· Existing knowledge of public benefits and compliance requirements is strongly preferred.

· Experience with employment services, case management or training required.

- Strong relationship building, diplomacy and networking skills; ability to effectively build internal and external relationships. - Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties and manage time effectively.

· Previous work experience with refugee and immigrant populations is strongly preferred.

· Computer literacy required, particularly in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook); ability to use the internet and other digital tools for data entry, research, training and problem-solving purposes.

· Valid driver’s license, access to insured, personal vehicle and/or access to reliable transportation for travel within the local community.

- Proficiency in language(s) spoken by client group is desired, including Dari, Farsi, and/or Pashto.

Working Environment: Standard office work environment with occasional travel within the local community supplemented by remote work.
