You have:

  • Bachelor's degree in animal science, Veterinary Medicine, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 - 3 years of practical experience in livestock and poultry management, with a focus on community-based projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise in animal housing, feeds and feeding, breeds and breeding, disease management, and livestock marketing.
  • Proven experience in conducting effective and engaging training sessions, particularly in the context of Farmers Field Schools (FFS).
  • Effective communication skills in both Dari and Pashto, both verbally and in writing.
  • Sensitivity to gender issues and a commitment to promoting gender-inclusive practices.
  • Good level of literacy and numeracy, with proficiency in computer skills being an asset.
  • Ability to evaluate the knowledge and skills of beneficiaries who have received training.
  • Enthusiasm for engaging with rural communities and marginalized urban households, with a commitment to improving livelihood opportunities.
  • Experience in establishing linkages between beneficiaries and local markets to generate income.

Job Description

- Provide expert technical guidance to beneficiaries on all aspects of poultry production, including but not limited to housing, feeds, breeding, disease management, and marketing. - Conduct comprehensive training sessions for selected beneficiaries in target communities, ensuring the transfer of knowledge and practical skills in poultry farming. - Evaluate the knowledge and skills of beneficiaries who have undergone training, ensuring the effectiveness of the training approach and addressing any gaps. - Conduct training on various steps for improved poultry management, emphasizing disease prevention, increased egg production, and overall profitability. - Organize and coordinate meetings among beneficiaries for the exchange of ideas, opinions, and experiences, fostering a collaborative community approach to poultry farming. - Have expertise in the establishment and facilitation of Farmers Field Schools (FFS) related to poultry production, encouraging practical learning and knowledge-sharing. - Design and conduct training sessions specifically for female beneficiaries, focusing on poultry production and dairy activities, promoting gender-inclusive practices. - Work collaboratively with other team members to link poultry beneficiaries to local markets, enhancing income-generating opportunities. - Collaborate with beneficiaries to construct or rehabilitate stables and coops for poultry, ensuring biosecurity considerations are integrated into construction practices. - Enhance the skills of beneficiaries in identifying and treating common poultry diseases, ensuring the availability of quality treatment resources. - Participate in procurement phases to ensure the procurement of healthy poultry, adhering to established standards. - Train target beneficiaries in preparing locally made fodder for poultry, promoting sustainable and cost-effective practices. - Collaborate with existing dairy farms, linking female livestock beneficiaries to these farms for additional income opportunities. - Train university and agriculture department interns on the principles of poultry production and practical aspects of Farmers Field Schools (FFS). - Actively participate in meetings conducted by government agencies, INGOs, and UN agencies at the field level. - Maintain clear and organized documentation of training sessions, expenses, and attendance. - Prepare monthly and weekly project reports, ensuring accurate and timely submission. - Develop curriculums, manuals, and agendas for training and workshops, sharing them with the Kabul team for review. - Abide by IRC personnel policies and regulations, ensuring compliance with organizational standards.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in animal science, Veterinary Medicine, or a related field. - Minimum of 2 - 3 years of practical experience in livestock and poultry management, with a focus on community-based projects. - Demonstrated expertise in animal housing, feeds and feeding, breeds and breeding, disease management, and livestock marketing. - Proven experience in conducting effective and engaging training sessions, particularly in the context of Farmers Field Schools (FFS). - Ability to evaluate the knowledge and skills of beneficiaries who have received training, ensuring the training approach is accurate and impactful. - Enthusiasm for engaging with rural communities and marginalized urban households, with a commitment to improving livelihood opportunities. - Background or qualification in agriculture, with a sound understanding of agricultural systems and practices. - Willingness to travel within regions and to other areas for training sessions. - Effective communication skills in both Dari and Pashto, both verbally and in writing. - Good level of literacy and numeracy, with proficiency in computer skills being an asset. - Understanding of small business management and labor market dynamics, particularly in the context of livestock and poultry farming. - Self-motivated individual with strong persuasion skills, capable of maintaining relationships and working independently. - Sensitivity to gender issues and a commitment to promoting gender-inclusive practices. - Experience in establishing linkages between beneficiaries and local markets to generate income. - Familiarity with biosecurity measures and considerations in the construction and rehabilitation of stables and coops. - Experience participating in procurement processes related to livestock and poultry services, ensuring the procurement of healthy animals. - Strong skills in maintaining clear and organized documentation of training sessions, expenses, and outcomes. - Ability to develop curriculums, manuals, and agendas for effective training programs. - Proven ability to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders, fostering a collaborative working environment. - Ability to adapt to various field contexts and respond effectively to emerging challenges. - Experience in training and mentoring interns in the principles of Farmers Field Schools (FFS) and practical aspects of livestock and poultry management. - Active participation in internal and external meetings, representing the livestock and poultry management program. - Commitment to abide by IRC personnel policies and regulations.
