Organizational Setting

In line with the Organization’s Strategic Objectives and United Nations’ global and Government of Egypt’s national Sustainable Development Goals, the main aim of the Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO’s) Representation in Egypt, which is headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist the Government of Egypt to develop policies, programs and projects to improve food security and nutrition, promote sustainable agricultural development, reduce rural poverty, develop inclusive agri-food systems and strengthen livelihood resilience of vulnerable communities.

FAO Egypt through its ECTAD unit assists the government to design and implement country-tailored field programs for among others controlling transboundary animal disease, zoonotic diseases, and addressing one health and AMR issues.

Reporting Lines

Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative, and direct supervision of ECTAD team leader, in close consultation with ECTAD team and FAO staff in general and in collaboration with government stakeholders, the incumbent will perform the task of the announced position.

Technical Focus

• National strategic plan development • National Vaccination and monitoring strategies development • Capacity building, organization of trainings/workshops. • Advocacy materials preparation.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Support in Review/update the National Strategic Plan (NSP) in light with the PPR GEP II (the Blueprint) • Assist in mainstreaming PPR NSP into the exiting national agricultural strategies and programme. • Liaise with the national authorities and advocate for more investment in PPR NSP.. • Advise on a strategy and implementation of PPR risk-based vaccination, including pre- and post-vaccination sero-monitoring • Monitor the implementation of the LoA with The Animal Health and Research Institute (AHRI) aiming at identification of disease episystems, mapping of livestock cross borders activities, suggest on livestock routes, and identification of risk hotspots. • Coordinate and participate in the training and assist in implementation of the PPR Monitoring and Assessment Tool (PMAT). • Coordinate with National PPR laboratories, National PPR coordinator and Epidemiologists, and PPR Secretariat for organisation of training and capacity building events and act as a trainer at the national level as needed. • Support country in the development of PPR communication strategic plan and preparation of advocacy materials that addressee a range of stakeholders • Support in Map small ruminant stakeholders, and support dialogue on suitable partnerships to address PPR • Support in Analyse countries’ situation regarding PPP regulations and/or policies in place that enable PPR NSP implementation. • Work closely with the PPR-Secretariat focal point, PPR National Coordinator, FAO Country Office, veterinary services, and other stakeholders/partners in conducting the above activities • Undertake other duties as needed/requested.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

• University degree in veterinary science • At least 5 years of relevant experience in animal health and animal diseases especially in Peste des Petits Ruminants • Working knowledge of English and Arabic and limited knowledge of French • National of Egypt
