The International United Nations Volunteer (Peacebuilding and Social Cohesion (Gender and Youth) Analyst) will be situated within the Social and Human Sciences Unit of the New Delhi Cluster Office. The Social and Human Sciences (SHS) Unit is mandated to create and mobilize knowledge to foster socially inclusive, resilient and equitable communities, working to address the drivers of exclusion, marginalization, and fragility which can create insecurity, instability, and conflict. Through this mandate, the SHS unit aims to ‘build peace in the minds of men and women’, creating durable and sustainable structures, processes, and behaviours for peace. To advance this mission, the Unit has three main thematic priorities for the 2022-23 biennium: • strengthening the engagement of men and boys for gender equality, building the knowledge and capacities needed to promote positive alternative norms of masculinity through education and community-based behavioural change in order to transform gender norms to help address the drivers of interpersonal and community violence; • bolstering the voice and socioemotional resilience of young people to enhance civic engagement and counter extremism and hate speech; • enhancing sports for development policy and practice to support peacebuilding, resili-ence, inclusion, and equity outcomes.

The IUNV will support work in two of these priority areas, advancing research, capacity-building, and advocacy to promote efforts to enhance peacebuilding and social cohesion through gender transformative actions and youth engagement and empowerment.

Under the direct supervision of Programme Specialist for Social and Human Sciences within the UNESCO New Delhi Cluster Office, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: • Support the design, development, and implementation of research, capacity-building, and advocacy activities and programmes to bolster gender transformative approaches for advancing social cohesion and peacebuilding; • Assist in the development and implementation of research, capacity-building, and ad-vocacy activities and programmes to build the resilience and preventative capacities of young people to resist extremist narratives and hate speech; • Support in undertaking research and analysis into the role and dynamics of gender transformative and youth-led actions to promote social cohesion and peacebuilding across South Asia to support programme implementation and internal learning; • Support programme reporting, monitoring, and evaluation for UNESCO’s Social and Human Sciences Programme in South Asia; • Assist in the identification and development of partnerships with key regional, interna-tional and local organizations and development partners working on relevant topics; • Map, identify and build relationships with relevant potential donors and manage the drafting of fundraising proposals and concept notes; • Support the preparation of reports, notes, memoranda, briefings and other correspond-ence and documents, as well as communications and outreach materials (including for traditional and social media); • Participate, as advised by the supervisor, UNESCO New Delhi in relevant working groups (including UN working groups and coordination mechanisms); • Support intersectoral collaboration and engage in the planning and management of in-tersectoral activities; • Perform other tasks and duties as directly by Supervisor.

and/or demonstrated interest in: • Gender transformative programming, in particular as it relates to positive alternative norms of masculinity and countering gender-based violence; • Youth empowerment and engagement for civic engagement and resilience; • The Women, Peace, and Security and/or Youth, Peace, and Security Agendas;
• Generating and mobilising applied social science research to support efforts to strengthen social peace; • Partnership development, outreach, and public advocacy; • Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded;

The position will be based in the capital, New Delhi, at the UNESCO Cluster Office for Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. The capital city is an administrative, cultural and commercial center with modern amenities and well connected by air. It is a safe place with large expatriate community drawn from embassies, UN agencies, MNCs and foreign businesses. It has short moderate winter and long hot summer.
