This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the Peace and Development Advisor (PDA), the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Assist on research, information-gathering and analysis on the context with specific focus on: youth-led peacebuilding, women-led mediation and dialogue, climate-security risks;
  • Ensure the data gathering and processing of the online early warning platform called “Crisis Risk Dashboard (CRD)” in close collaboration with UN partners and relevant teams, and identify entry points for using digital technologies in peace work;
  • Support the PDA in undertaking political scanning, context analysis, monitoring the situation in the country, and reporting of issues related to peace and development, including through analysis of local and international sources ;
  • Support mitigation measures and programmatic responses to climate-related risks.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Master degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

Advanced university degree (Master’s Degree) in political science, sociology, international relations, international economics, law, public administration, or other related social sciences. In lieu of an Advanced degree, a Bachelor university degree with additional 3 years of relevant professional experience.

Required experience:

24 Months

Experience remark:

Experience in conducting analysis, research and sound drafting skills

Language skills:

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • French(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

Area of expertise:

Political affairs and political reporting, Other rule of law or governance related experience, Crisis and conflict prevention, mitigation, resolution and reconciliation

Area of expertise details:

Peacebuilding and Reconciliation : Ability to support dialogue and/or peace processes to facilitate recovery and development

Conflict Analysis and Risk Assessment :Knowledge of conflict analysis and risk assessment concepts and the ability to apply to strategic and/or practical situations

Analysis, Research and drafting skills

Conflict-Sensitive Programming : Ability to use methods and tools to monitor conflict triggers and determine impact of various dynamics in conflict-prone situations

Gender : Knowledge of gender issues and the ability to apply to strategic and/or practical situations, including analysis of projects from a gender perspective
