Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) supports the Resident Coordinator and the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) in strengthening strategic coordination, policy coherence, partnerships and development financing to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (CF) 2026–2030 in Eswatini. The RCO serves as a strategic interface between the UNCT, Government, development partners, international financial institutions, private sector, civil society, academia and other stakeholders. In this context, effective partnerships and innovative approaches to development financing are increasingly important to mobilize resources, leverage investments and strengthen the impact and sustainability of UN-supported development interventions. The Partnerships and Development Financing Intern will support the RCO in analysis, partnership development, resource mobilization, strategic communications and coordination. The position will provide an opportunity to apply academic training in peace and conflict studies, political theory, governance and conflict analysis to contemporary development, partnership and financing challenges in Eswatini. The purpose of the internship is to support the RCO in strengthening its capacity to: • support engagement with Government, development partners, international financial institutions, private sector, civil society and other stakeholders; • contribute to resource mobilization and partnership intelligence; • support the effective coordination and documentation of partnership-related processes and engagements. The Internship at RCO Eswatini is for a period of Five (5) months. The Internship is UNPAID and in-person at the Duty Station. The candidate will be under the over supervision of the Resident Coordinator with day-to-day supervision under the Partnerships and Development Financing Officer/Senior RCO Officer. The intern will also work collaboratively with relevant RCO colleagues and, where appropriate, UNCT Results Groups, Subgroups and UN agencies. Responsibilities The Intern will contribute to the following areas: A. Partnerships and Development Financing Support the RCO's efforts to identify, develop and strengthen strategic partnerships by: • conducting research on potential bilateral, multilateral, philanthropic, private-sector and development-financing partners both local and international; • mapping existing and emerging development financing opportunities relevant to Eswatini as a middle income country; • tracking relevant calls for proposals, funding windows, financing instruments and partnership opportunities; • supporting the preparation of concept notes, funding briefs and resource mobilization materials. • Maintaining and regularly update a partnership and resource mobilization database, • Support partnership intelligence and engagement, including preparing partner profiles, briefing notes and background materials for meetings with prospective partners, and documenting agreed actions and follow-up opportunities • Support PDFO in rolling out the partnerships strategy B. UNSDCF 2026–2030 Support The intern will support the RCO in the implementation and monitoring of the UNSDCF 2026–2030, including: • conducting research relevant to the two UNSDCF strategic priorities; • supporting analysis of results, indicators and emerging implementation issues; • contributing to Joint Workplan and results-group documentation; • supporting preparation of UNCT briefing materials, analytical notes and other strategic materials; • undertaking research on SDG acceleration opportunities; • supporting linkages between national development priorities and UN comparative advantages; and identifying opportunities for stronger integration of partnerships and financing into UNSDCF implementation. 2030 Agenda • Keep abreast of Eswatini’s socio-economic trends and identify their implications for UN’s development cooperation • Any other duties as may be assigned

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme. Preferred studies: • Currently enrolled in, or have recently completed, a Master's degree in Peace and Conflict Studies, International Relations, Development Studies, Political Science, Public Policy, Governance, Economics, International Development or a related discipline; and • Demonstrate strong academic interest in governance, conflict prevention, development cooperation, international organizations and/or development financing. - Knowledge of Eswatini’s social and economic development context. - Analytical skills and application of techniques (e.g. econometric tools, Microsoft, statistical analysis) - Demonstrable skills in writing and presentation - Have affinity with or interest in coordination, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System. Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. Fluency in English language is required for this internship. Knowledge of Siswati would be desirable.
