Scope of Work

The consultant will support the Social and Behaviour change team at UNICEF ECARO with the following tasks/activities:

Social marketing strategies and plans for new and existing products/platforms/initiatives developed by the SBC team (50 working days)

  • Perform analysis (e.g. SWOT) of SBC products/platforms/initiatives.
  • Carry out “competitor” analysis of similar or complementary products/platforms/initiatives.
  • Support the identification of the proper social marketing mix that will allow the various audiences to understand, acknowledge and engage with the various products/platforms/initiatives.
  • Support branding-related activities of new and existing products/platforms. This will include identifying aspects such as brand position, brand personality, brand associations, etc. Create branding packages.
  • Develop the promotion plan of new and existing products/platforms/initiatives.
  • Conduct (online) focus group discussions with relevant audiences to understand their perceptions of the SBC products/platforms. Based on the insights, propose approaches to enhance the platforms, the user experience and their usability.
  • Develop strategies and plans for products/platforms that should be re-branded or discontinued.
  • Develop “promotion” packages, targeted to different audiences, with basic information about the SBC products/platforms/initiatives. The packages should describe what the product/platform/initiative is and its benefits, their target audiences, resources for promotion etc.
  • Support country offices to adapt the social marketing strategies/plans.

Manage/support digital engagement activities in new and existing digital platforms (25 working days)

  • Monitor the usability of the platforms (number of users, time spent on each page, etc.) and propose approaches to enhance their performance.
  • In collaboration with the Technology for Development (T4D) Team, explore the development of new features on the platforms.
  • Develop engaging content (e.g. polls, messages, etc.) using existing and new features of the platforms.
  • Develop monthly reports on the usability of the platforms and activities carried out to increase number of users and user experience.
  • In collaboration with the Evaluation Section, support the evaluation of digital platforms.

Support the development of social and behaviour change communication (SBCC) campaigns/resources (25 working days)

  • In collaboration with the SBC team, support the development of SBCC campaigns. This may include the definition of campaign concept, hashtags, key messages and campaign materials.
  • Develop M&E plans to track the results of campaigns.
  • Support the development of SBCC messages and resources (e.g. posters, leaflets, social media assets, etc.)

Individual Contractor's Work Place and Official Travel

The assignment will be home-based. The Individual Contractor is required on a part-time basis for the period of the contract.

Estimated Cost of the Consultancy & Payment Schedule

Payment will be made monthly, according to the number of days worked each month, and based on submission of monthly invoices by the individual contractor. Please indicate a daily fee (USD) in your application to undertake this assignment. The invoices should be accompanied by a brief report that states the key monthly deliverables and the number of days worked throughout that month.

UNICEF reserves the right to withhold all or a portion of payment if performance is unsatisfactory, if work/outputs is incomplete, not delivered or for failure to meet deadlines. To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Minimum Qualifications required:

  • Masters in Marketing, Social Marketing, Branding or related field.
  • At least 5 years of previous experience and expertise in marketing or social marketing.
  • Proven experience in managing digital platforms in an engaging manner.
  • Proven experience in developing social marketing campaigns.
  • Proven experience in developing brand strategies, preferably for non-commercial products/initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce high quality results in a timely manner.
  • Excellent command of English. Proficiency of other languages spoken in the region is an asset.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience on social marketing strategies/plans to promote positive behaviours on topics related to education, health, child protection, humanitarian assistance.
  • Proven familiarity and experience working with the UN (ideally with UNICEF).

Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract.
