JOB PURPOSE

To support WFP’s emergency response in Cabo Delgado through Operational Reporting and Information Management (OIM). The position will be based in Pemba.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

Prevailing insecurity in Cabo Delagado has escalated in recent months and the situation has resulted to thousands of displacement within and without the province. WFP’s response in support of the displaced population increased in the various locations where they are located. However some areas are still difficult to reach for example Palma while others cannot be accessed at all for example Mocimba da Praia. In addition, Covid-19 has further compounded the overall humanitarian situation. Meanwhile WFP was alsorequested to coordinate and support the humanitarian report with provision of Operation Information Management.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Advanced University degree in English, Political Science, Economics, Statistics, Information Management or Project Management, Social Sciences or other relevant field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  1. Support WFP’s emergency response in Cabo Delgado through Operational Reporting and Information Management (OIM).
  2. Support WFP’s response to the IDP crisis in the northern provinces of Cabo Delgado and Nampula.
  3. In consultation with other units, identify data needs and develop systems for effective complication of information for reporting.
  4. Contribute to the development, implementation and assurance of defined quality standards in all processes and products, both for internal and external audience.
  5. Provide support for the Operational Task Forces and update the emergency dashboards in coordination with the CO, RBJ, and HQs.
  6. Provide information for Topic Briefs ahead of high-level meetings and provide updates on the situation in Cabo Delgado and Nampula to senior management on a regular basis.
  7. Coordinate and lead the compilation of Weekly SitRep focusing on the ongoing emergency response and operations in Cabo Delgado.
  8. Provide inputs for donor reports, donor briefings and other products containing key information on WFP’s intervention in Cabo Delgado province.
  9. Ensure the regular updating of information tools such as operational maps, and initiate the creation of new tools as required.
  10. Coordinate and lead the development and production of visibility products (photographs, posters, banners, etc) and liaise with CO for regular supply of staff visibility items.
  11. Collaborate with UN and NGOs counterparts to ensure consistencies in humanitarian information and to complement WFP’s own analysis and information.
  12. Lead communication activities in Cabo Delgado, including content gathering and editing, production of photographs and short videos, publications, etc.
  13. Act as focal point for media outlet visits to the emergency activities in the northern provinces in Cabo Delgado and Nampula.

OTHER SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Sound theoretical understanding of OIM concepts and principles with a broad knowledge of best practices, techniques and processes.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyse and interpret information and draw out the key messages.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, able to clearly articulate insights to stakeholders in WFP.
  • Ability to lead, motivate and develop small teams of junior staff.
  • Knowledge of common business principles and processes and the ability to quickly assimilate UN/WFP specific processes and systems.
  • Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Publisher, Power BI, Tableau, Excel, etc

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

Three years or more of postgraduate professional experience in a relevant field of work, with a background and interest in international humanitarian development or journalism.
