The New Roots Coordinator is responsible for oversight of New Roots in Denver, an urban gardening and food access program that provides gardening opportunities for refugees and immigrants in Denver, in addition to addressing food security concerns. This position will oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of all New Roots programing, including development of small-scale urban community gardening opportunities for refugees, as well as food access and food security programming. The Coordinator will manage key partnerships in the community that support community gardening, developing new partnerships and the capacity of partners to support the refugee community. Primary responsibilities include supervision of staff and/or volunteers, participant recruitment, communication, training, and technical assistance, program strategy and operations, partnership management, program evaluation efforts, and other duties as needed. This is a full-time regular position.

Major Responsibilities:

Program Mangement and Administration

- Collaborate with Deputy Director of Programs and key staff on strategic planning including program growth and improvement, program design, and evaluation. - Building and maintaining close working relationships with program partners, the local food community, and stakeholders in all areas of the program is essential. The Coordinator will develop and maintain partnerships to support New Roots programming. - Represent New Roots Denver within the national New Roots network and collaborate with other New Roots offices as needed. - Represent New Roots in the larger community including attending outreach events, participating in media events, and planning and executing events and volunteer days.

Participant Communication & Workshops

- Regularly communicate with New Roots participants to coordinate participation in program activities, including access to garden plots, resources, and training and technical assistance. - Organize and develop cohort model of support to New Roots participants, fostering leadership opportunities for participants. - Develop and oversee implementation of agricultural and nutrition curriculum and training materials, including trainings related to urban gardening, composting, seed starting, soil fertility, soil testing, soil amendments, through regular workshops and one-to-one training and technical assistance. - Develop and oversee implementation of food system navigation trainings to support food security for New Root participants, including workshops on supplemental food access through food banks and managing SNAP benefits. - Troubleshoot challenges with clients and determine solutions that benefit participants and the program.

Supervision and Program Oversight

- Recruit and supervise interns, volunteers, and other staff as program expansion allows. - Facilitate regular team meetings and communication between team members of project activities. - Review and provide feedback on outreach, curriculum, evaluations, and other program materials. - As program expansion allows, assist New Roots staff members in overseeing gardening, food access project areas, trainings and in designing protocols, program structure, and program delivery methods and oversee implementation

Tracking

- Manage data collection and tracking efforts and oversee implementation of comprehensive New Roots process and impact evaluations. - Ensure appropriate documentation of program services including entering data into the program’s information data systems and other internal tracking forms/systems. - Oversee evaluation efforts including developing new tools for pre- and post- evaluations, tracking monetary gains, and keeping records of garden sites. - Adapt and oversee dissemination of food access surveys and other data collection tools to identify food security needs of refugee community members. - Collect and maintain relevant data for New Roots grant and donor deliverables; contribute to grant writing and reporting requirements. - Collaborate with New Roots team to keep accurate case files and participant records for all program participants; monitor and record skill acquisition with New Roots participants.

Job Requirements:

- Undergraduate degree, or equivalent experience, in Agronomy, Business, Non-profit Management, or related field. - Minimum of 4+ years related work experience. - Demonstrated understanding of urban agriculture and food access, and competency in program planning and implementation. - Strong organizational skills including multi-tasking, prioritizing, planning, and effective time management. - Motivated, flexible and able to think creatively and work independently. - Fluency in written and spoken English, with bi-lingual ability preferred. In French, Arabic, or Dari. - Ability and interest in communicating with limited-English speakers. - Demonstrated multi-cultural experience and ability to work as a team member in a cross-cultural environment. - Valid driver’s license, active insurance policy and access to reliable transportation.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

- Hybrid remote/in-person. Staff will be provided with IRC laptops and cell phones and must have access to a location with secure internet service where remote work can be performed according to the schedule negotiated with their supervisor. - All staff are required to adhere to IRC’s COVID risk mitigation policies, which include but are not limited to masking, physical distancing, enhanced hygiene practices, symptom screening, and isolation and quarantine when needed. Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
