How can you make a difference?

The stories, videos and photographs, which will give a human face to donor proposals and reports, will focus on individual beneficiaries of UNICEF-supported programmes in Tunisia. These materials will be used for publications, proposals, and donor reports, the UNICEF website, the UNICEF Facebook page, and other documents in Tunisia, the UNICEF Middle East and North Africa Regional Office, and Headquarters.

Under the general guidance of the Partnerships Specialist, this role is responsible for Produce and finalizing (6) human interest stories in English and French with accompanying photos (four to six for each story) and videos which highlight:

  1. The issues affecting children in Tunisia the areas of Social Protection, Education, WASH, Child Protection and Health.
  2. The actions taken by UNICEF and partners under the various programme areas to deliver results for children
  3. The impact of the support and the challenges that remain.
  4. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on women and children in Tunisia.

To meet this requirement, the UNICEF Tunisia Partnerships unit would like to engage the services of a professional writer to document UNICEF’s work following UNICEF publications and stylebook guidelines.

  1. OBJECTIVES

• Liaise with the Partnerships team to identify suitable subjects for coverage. The Partnerships team will identify the relevant UNICEF programme staff and implementing partners on the ground to assist the writer as required to develop HIS and videos with accompanying photographs.

• Travel within the country to collect information, conduct interviews and perform related tasks for the purpose of producing human interest or other stories and/or documenting UNICEF-supported activities, donor visits and other events related to UNICEF’s work.

• Capture appropriate high-resolution photographs for each of the human-interest stories to be published in donor reports, proposals, programme documents, social media, UNICEF websites, power point presentations, social media packages and exhibition kits.

• Teachers, parents, and others impacted by the programme may be interviewed to provide perspective, background or complementary information. However, the story should as far as possible be told from each child’s perspective.

  1. EXPECTED RESULTS AND DELIVERABLES
  • 6 (six) high-quality HIS stories (of approx.. of 900-1,000 words) accompanied by 4-6 photos each, with suitable photo captions, headlines, and sub-headlines for all articles, and accompanying subtitled videos of 2-3 minutes each to be posted on social media and based on interview of beneficiaries and/or story subjects
  • A separate portfolio of at least 50 photos and 6 videos in high resolution produced during the mission.

It has to be noted that the human interest stories and articles should be written within journalistic quality standards and based on UNICEF orientations, requiring minimal editing, and within the deadlines set by the office.

High quality, error-free final versions approved by chief programme sections and the Deputy Representative should be provided.

Sixth month - December 2022

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • • A University degree in Sociology, Communication studies, Journalism, Public Relations, or a similar field. Professional qualifications in Media/Communication/photography will be an added advantage. • More than five years of practical professional experience in writing for international organizations • Extensive experience in writing human interest stories and articles. • High responsible sense of journalistic ethics and in-depth understanding of human and child rights issues. • Must be fluent in English and have excellent Arabic or French • Excellent communication skills • Knowledge of UNICEF’s environment is an asset and previous working experience with UNICEF is strongly preferred

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. The candidate may also be subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid).
