National Volunteer for Research (for Quang Ninh, Cao Bang)

This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.
Eligibility criteria
Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.
Description of task
- Conduct interviews of people living in border areas in designated provinces to understand the key factors behind a community’s attitude towards illicit trafficking and the possible remedial actions that could be put in place;
- Travel between designated provinces and to communities in border areas of each province to reach out to more individuals to understand the local dynamics in those communities.
- Compile the information and data collected and send them every week to the National UN Volunteer in Ha Noi (Data Compiling and Translation Officer);
- Create communication contents on the implementation of the assignment (e.g. pictures, short films, narrative accounts – including human stories), while respecting security and safety rules, and send those to the National UNV in Ha Noi for forwarding to UNODC;
- Be in constant contact with the National UN Volunteer in Ha Noi to understand the latest instructions from UNODC regarding the implementation of the initiative;
- Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by UNODC.
Qualifications/Requirements
Required degree level:
Bachelor degree or equivalent
Education - Additional Comments:
A first-level university degree in journalism, law, political science, global studies, international development, public policy or related fields;
Required experience:
24 Months
Experience remark:
At least two years of professional work experience is required at the national and/or international level in journalism, programme implementation, policy/legal advice, research/analysis or other relevant experience with one or more of the fields of UNODC mandates (transnational organized crime, criminal justice, anti-corruption, drugs and health, sustainable livelihoods)
Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
- Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
- Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
- Working knowledge of languages of any minority groups in Viet Nam is an advantage;
