Organizational Setting

The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.

Reporting Lines

Under the overall and operational supervision of the FAO Representative in Albania, the direct supervision of the project coordinator and the guidance of the international need assessment specialist.

Technical Focus

The project “Earthquake recovery support through the UN SDG Acceleration Fund in Albania (UNJP/ALB/018/UNJ)” aims to respond to the earthquake (2019) by meeting the recovery needs of the affected farmers/agro-processors and by addressing underlying vulnerabilities. Farmers and agro-processors who were affected by the earthquake will get support through grants aimed at rehabilitation of livelihoods and strengthening resilience to future shocks. The implementation of the grants component will take into consideration existing context, specifically previous damage and loss assessments.

Tasks and responsibilities

The National Technical Livestock Specialist will:

  • Based on the reassessment report suggest measures/investment for livestock farms recoveries (“build back better”);
  • Provide technical inputs and data on livestock production;
  • Assist in organizing consultation workshop on the small scale investment needs;
  • Assist to prepare the investment proposal plan (template) where is stated the investment benefits;
  • Assist farmers related to grant implementation (livestock farms);
  • Suggest livestock breeds which may be covered from the project;
  • Participate in the final project workshop;
  • Perform other related duties as and when required.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • University degree in livestock, Agriculture or other relevant field;
  • At least 7 years of relevant experience in livestock and investments in agriculture
  • National of Albania or resident in the country with a regular work permit

Technical/Functional Skills

  • Strong knowledge of grant implementation in livestock; knowledge of specific context for Albania will be considered an asset;

  • Writing and communication skills in English are required;
  • Affinity with the mandate and role of the United Nations and FAO.
