Organizational Setting

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger. FAO Ukraine is seeking to increase the resilience of livelihoods to threats and crises that affect agriculture, food and nutrition, focusing on four major areas: - rural economic development - transition to sustainable agriculture and food production practices - adaptation to climate change - humanitarian assistance.

FAO Ukraine is the country office of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, a specialized agency dedicated to achieving food security, reducing rural poverty, and promoting sustainable management of natural resources. FAO Ukraine works in close partnership with the government, civil society organizations, private sector, and other UN agencies to address the diverse challenges and opportunities in the agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and environmental sectors. By providing technical assistance, policy advice, and capacity development support, FAO Ukraine plays a vital role in fostering sustainable agricultural practices, strengthening the resilience of rural communities, and enhancing food security and nutrition across the country.

The role is in-office, based in Kyiv, Ukraine.

Reporting Lines

Under the overall supervision of the Head of Office/Designated Responsible Officer/Budget Holder and under the direct supervision of the Head of Programme and in close collaboration with Operations Officer, Emergency Response Manager, MEAL Team, Project Managers in FAO UA and Reporting Unit at HQs.

Technical Focus

The National Reporting Specialist will be responsible for providing visibility and organizational support to FAO Ukraine to help FAO meet program implementation and resource mobilization goals. The Specialist will support the Head of Planning & Resource Mobilization, as well as the Head of Programme, on all topics FAO works on in Ukraine, including emergency response, agriculture, livestock, value chain and natural resource management. The Specialist will need to work closely with the monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEAL) team, Operations Team, the Program team, and the Planning & Resource Mobilization team to ensure the FAO results are written and presented to donors in a timely, accurate and compelling manner.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Collect, compile, and information from FAO Ukraine projects to prepare regular progress and performance reports, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance with FAO standards and guidelines and to ensure the sharing of information, lessons learned, and best practices related to reporting. • Write and edit progress and final/terminal narrative reports for emergency and development projects, together with accompanying cover letters and project highlights, in accordance with FAO Reporting and Editorial Guidelines, and take the necessary actions to dispatch them to appropriate addressees in FAO headquarters, donors, partners, and other stakeholders as required. • Contribute to the development and review of project proposals, concept notes, and other documentation to ensure alignment with FAO strategies and objectives, as needed; • Coordinate closely with the monitoring and evaluation team to collect and write up results of project activities, outcomes, and impact; • Assist in the revision, finalization and timely submission of key resource mobilization documents to ensure alignment to FAO standards in line with the requirements of major donors; • Support with writing other documents, such proposals, brochures, leaflets, situation reports, presentations, social media posts, in compliance with FAO Style guidelines and as time permits. • Ensure use of standard reporting templates for semi-annual, annual progress and terminal reports • Provide technical support and guidance to FAO staff and partners on high-quality writing, citing and reporting requirements and best practices; • Design and deliver training programs to strengthen reporting capacity within the organization, ensuring that staff and partners have the necessary skills and knowledge to prepare high-quality reports and meet reporting requirements; • Undertake travel, if needed, on short notice, in support of FAO decentralized offices, to provide support in outreach and/or reporting processes, methods and skills, and set up an information system (Microsoft Online) to ensure monitoring of reports, in particular in countries where FAO has declared a large scale emergency response; • Perform other related duties as required.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

• University degree in journalism, mass communications, development communications, or other relevant field • At least 3 years of relevant experience communications, including media relations and the use of new and traditional media • Working knowledge (Level C) of English • Working knowledge (Level C) of Ukrainian and/or Russian • National of Ukraine

• Advanced university degree is the abovementioned areas is considered an asset • Excellent writing editorial skills with good attention to details • Good interpersonal, communications skills • Sound knowledge and experience in writing reports • Ability to use own initiative, multi-task and excellent organizational skills • Good knowledge of the UN system, procedures and operational activities would be an advantage
