Organizational Setting

FAO's office for Yemen is responsible for developing, promoting, overseeing and implementing agreed strategies for addressing countrywide food, agriculture and rural development priorities under Yemen. It develops and maintains relations with the relevant Ministries at country level. This position is based in the FAO Representation in Sanaa, Yemen. The main aim of FAO country offices, which are headed by a FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to support the development of the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.

Reporting Lines

The incumbent works under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Yemen, the general supervision of the Head of Programmes, and the direct supervision of the Project Manager – PROACT II (Joint Actions for Food Security and Nutrition in Yemen). The incumbent is also required to exercise strong collaboration and coordination with the various units within FAO Yemen and with relevant Implementing Partners.

Technical Focus

Support the implementation and monitoring of the FAO Yemen Joint Actions for Food Security and Nutrition Project in line with established guidelines, policies and procedures

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Support the daily administration of the Joint Actions for Food Security and Nutrition in Yemen – PROACT II project, including but not limited to maintaining the filing system of administrative and financial documents, organizing meetings, and preparing minutes, assisting the Project Manager with drafting correspondences, etc.
  • Provide technical guidance and operational support and assist operational partners and other stakeholders of the project in the implementation of their activities.
  • Facilitate the preparation of Letters of Agreement (LOAs) for various implementing partners.
  • Establish strong partnerships with pertinent government and non-government actors, and work closely with partners on data collection, assessment, analysis, reporting and dissemination.
  • Assist in the preparation of project reports.
  • Coordinate workshops and trainings and prepare related documents.
  • Work in close coordination with the M&E Unit, Third Party Monitoring or Auditing institutions.
  • Conduct field visits to project sites on regular basis and ensure submission of reports with findings and recommendations.
  • Follow up with other relevant units within FAO Yemen (Operations, Finance, Logistics, etc.) to support processes required for project implementation in line with established guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Liaise with local implementing partners and relevant stakeholders to verify project progress.
  • Collect, compile and document lessons learned, success stories, and any other relevant project-related information.
  • Contribute to the formulation of project proposals as well as processes related to budget monitoring and budget revisions.
  • Identify issues and follow-up actions related to the implementation of Joint Actions for Food Security and Nutrition project.
  • Liaise with local governments and participating UN Agencies where the project will be implemented for the efficient implementation of the project.
  • Perform other related duties as required

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Agriculture, Project Management, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum seven years of relevant experience in a similar position in the humanitarian/development sector engaged in project implementation.
  • Experience with UN agency, International NGO or donor agencies highly desirable.
  • Nationality of Yemen.
