Organizational Setting

FAO office in Sao Tome e Principe supports the country in promoting sustainable forest management and ensuring that the country benefits from social and economic dimensions of forestry and natural resources to lift from poverty and food insecurity. The FAO country office receives immediate technical support from FAO subregional office for Central Africa and from other FAO technical units of RAF and HQ. In the implementation of the activities of the PPG on Ecosystem restoration for enhanced biodiversity, productive landscape and sustainable livelihoods in Sao Tome e Principe a national specialist nature-based livelihoods, value-chains, gender will be recruited.

Reporting Lines

The National specialist nature-based livelihoods, value-chains, gender will be recruited will be recruited will work under the general supervision of the FAO representative in STP and the direct technical supervision of the Forestry Officer for Central Africa, LTO of the project.

Technical Focus

Forestry, forest economics, value chains, ecosystem restoration, environmental and social sciences, natural resource management and related field.

Tasks and responsibilities

The national nature-based livelihoods, and gender specialist will be recruited to perform the following tasks: • Analyse national and sub-national context relating to Ecosystem Restauration practices and approaches, with special focus on market opportunities, market requirements, critical success factors, competitiveness of selected Value Chains (VC) and sustainability considerations); • Pre-identify relevant interventions and operational approaches to improve livelihoods of local communities with consideration of gender balance; • Draft a road map towards improving livelihoods and gender balance in pursuit of Ecosystem Restauration; • Compile a gender analysis based on literature review and the field data collected to understand the underlying gender dynamics in the context of Ecosystem Restauration tin STP o address socio-economic drivers and barriers to change and issues faced by rural women that hamper Ecosystem Restauration and restoration of target landscapes; • Based on the gender analysis, develop a Gender Action Plan (GAP) with specific entry points for gender mainstreaming into project design and implementation to ensure that women, men, youth and all relevant social groups can equally benefit from project interventions; • Organize and lead gender-focus working groups and other gender and social specific stakeholder interventions for the preparation of the gender analysis and associated gender action plan; • Support the drafting (provide inputs and review other sections for gender and socio-environmental elements) of the Project document sections relevant including a gender-responsive results framework; • Ensure that gender considerations are mainstreamed throughout the PPG process by using gender lenses to review supporting baseline reports and project document; • Identify any negative implications/risks (i.e. creating/contribution to community issues that can have negative repercussions on women) involved in restoration and provide mitigation solutions; • Present the results of the two workshops and data collected in brief report. • Perform other related duties, as required.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum requirements

• University degree in, forestry, forest economics, ecosystem restoration, environmental sciences, natural resource management, gender analysis and related field with working experience in this area. • Minimum of 5 year of relevant professional experience in forestry, forest economics value chain, gender analysis and sustainable development. • Knowledge of (level C) of English or French and limited knowledge (level B) of another FAO language (French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, or Russian). • National of Sao Tome e Principe
