Overview

Assist with English-Kurdish translation services

You have:

  • Bachelor's degree in translation or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the translation of professional documents from English to Kurdish is required.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Fluency in Kurdish is required.
  • Experience in translating press releases and other media products is desirable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office is desirable.

Result of Service The UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in Iraq is currently seeking a qualified English- Kurdish translator on an as-needed basis to assist with press releases, official correspondence, and other documents to facilitate communication with Kurdish-speaking communities and officials.

Expected duration 1 Year

Duties and Responsibilities The Translator will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Translate documents from English into Kurdish, and vice-versa, in no more than two (2) days (depending on the size of the document, the delivery term could be extended);
  • At times, RCO may require urgent translation (same day) services for short documents;
  • Documents to be translated from English into Kurdish, and vice-versa, may include: Public information materials (press releases, official correspondence, news articles, website materials, etc.);
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • In-person meeting translations when needed.

Methodology:

The consultant is expected to work remotely from residence address and will not work in a UN Office. The translator is expected to provide her or his own equipment and telecommunications internet bandwidth. The translator is responsible for any costs related to obtaining or maintaining his or her own updated versions of Microsoft Office software.

Qualifications/special skills A Bachelor's degree in translation or a related field is required. A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the translation of professional documents from English to Kurdish is required. Experience in translating press releases and other media products is desirable. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is desirable.

Languages Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required; and fluency in Kurdish is required.

Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
