Purpose of Activity/Assignment:

To support UNICEF, Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of Adjara (MoECS), MoES and Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University (BSU) in planning and organizing 2nd International ECE conference in June 2023.

Scope of Work:

The consultancy envisions work in four main areas: (1) supporting the organizing committee in defining and planning the conference contents; (2) supporting the work of the scientific committee and ensuring effective coordination between the key stakeholders (MoECS, MoES, UNICEF, BSU, scientific committee), (3) leading active communication with potential national and international presenters/participants; (4) supporting quality of conference sessions through proper organization/enhancement of conference contents.

Duration: start date- 15 January to 15 June 2023. Number of working dates 37 days spread through 5 months.

Task 1. Supporting MoECS and UNICEF to define and plan the conference contents, timelines, communication strategy and other organizational issues; Ensuring effective coordination between the key stakeholders (MoECS, MoES, UNICEF, BSU, scientific committee)

Deliverable 1. Developed detailed plan for preparations and organization of the conference

Task 2. Supporting work of organizing and scientific committees (facilitating committee meetings, communicating with potential national and international presenters (academics, policy-makers, practitioners); facilitating submissions review by the committee members)

Deliverables 2. At least three meetings held with the scientific committee; submissions reviewed and evaluated by the committee members; areas identified for additional speakers to be invited (if needed)

Task 3. Developing conference programme based on accepted submissions under the guidance of MoECS, UNICEF, MoES, BSU and the scientific committee; facilitating communication with accepted presenters for preparation works; communicating with invited keynote speakers and presenters.

Deliverable 3. Conference programme developed; communication established and ongoing with selected participants/presenters/keynote speakers

Task 4. Supporting content-wise organization of the sessions to ensure quality and the coherence of each session (particularly the parallel sessions, panel discussions); supporting presenters in preparatory work, where necessary.

Task 5. Supporting communication with wider audience of ECEC community to attend the conference through online platform

Travel: Travel to Batumi one day before the pre-conference sessions and throughout the sessions (5-9 June).

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Minimum Qualifications required:

Master’s degree Education/Child Development and Psychology.

-At least 3 years’ experience of working in early childhood education

-Experience in organizing/supporting or leading educational -conferences or fairs

-Experience in developing academic publications

-In-depth knowledge of ECEC field

-Excellent knowledge of English and Georgian

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
