UNICEF Azerbaijan Country Office (CO) has started its new Country Programme cycle (2021-2025). In support of the new programme priorities, CO is in indeed of visual documentation of the situation of children in Azerbaijan to provide communication and advocacy materials to be used by UNICE across various platforms and to enlist institutional and public support on behalf of UNICEFs mission and programmatic efforts to achieve results for children. Visual documentation will be produced in accordance with the principles and standards deriving from the Convention on the Right of the Child and other International Human Rights instruments and in light of UNICEFs contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals.

How can you make a difference?

The objective of this consultancy is to provide a high-quality visual documentation of children in Azerbaijan in line with the vision by UNICEF and the vision of the country programme 2021-2025 to be used in UNICEF publications, social media and traditional media.

Scope of Work:

1. Photographic documentation

Documentations of central characters/subjects in the photo coverage serving to tell a first-person narrative story; a more personal nature from photo coverage characters/subjects directly addressing the camera with their gaze.

2. Content produced with distribution platforms in mind

Programme coverage - professional photojournalism/documentary coverage of UNICEF supported programmes as well as general advocacy on the subject ie. coverage can include documentation of programme intervention as well as documenting the situation that shows the need for intervention. For distribution through WeShare[1] to UNICEF internally, UNICEF National Commitees, and other internal and external partners such as media, NGO and UN partners.

3. First person narrative visual storytelling with captions & quotes

Professional photojournalism/documentary storytelling focused on an individual subject, telling the story through the life and experiences of an individual. Visual storytelling includes captions and first-person quotes furthering the storytelling. Possibly a hero character in the narrative that is facing a challenge.

Give some additional personality to the individuals beyond the main problem they are affected by. What kind of things do they love to do? How has the current crisis changed their lives? Make sure there are enough details about their lives in order to make them relatable. Emotional content resonates well with audiences and promotes further sharing. When possible, try to track and share before and after results of a story to show the impact individuals, UNICEF and our partners can make.

Special considerations:

Sensitivity of the subjects and ethical issue: Photograph UNICEF programme activities, keeping in mind culture, gender and other diverse sensitivities as per UNICEF guidelines. The photographs should be usable for diverse audiences and have universal appeal.

•Demonstrate a client-oriented approach, tact and ability to work with people of different cultural backgrounds.

• Ensure effective and efficient provision of services, full confidentiality in all aspects of the assignment, management of information flow and follow-up on deadlines and commitments made.

• Ensure dignity of subjects, particularly in the context of children and vulnerable groups.

• Write concise, well edited captions for all high-quality images (captions should be embedded in the images and shared separately as a word document as well.

• Ensure consent forms are signed by children and/or guardians as per UNICEF guidelines.

• Work in close coordination with the communication specialist.

Responsibilities

  • Photo-related miscellaneous charges must be invoiced separately from the contract fee and accompanied by the original receipt for the item.
  • Consultant photographer supplies all photographic equipment and agrees to provide, if requested, transmissions of rough edit selections of best images.
  • On assignment completion, the broad edit will be transferred electronically to UNICEF Azerbaijan.
  • UNICEF has first selection rights to all originals taken on this assignment with non-exclusive concomitant world rights in all media in perpetuity.

Minimum qualifications required:

- high school diploma;

- 6-8 years of experience;

- working with international organizations/media is desired;

- understanding of social media and background is an asset;

- ability to deliver materials according to the specified quality and technical requirements

Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
