Purpose of the activity/assignment:

The main purpose of this consultancy is to contextualize and conduct training sessions on Interpersonal Communication (IPC) and Accountability to affected populations (AAP) for UNICEF implementing partners.

Scope of Work:

1. Assessing training requirements by conducting in-person or virtual consultations with partners and community volunteers and formulating comprehensive training strategies

  • The consultant will need to conduct a seeping exercise, which may involve in-person or virtual meetings with implementing partners and volunteers. This exercise aims to evaluate the current understanding and skills and capacity building requirements among our partners and volunteers in the areas of IPC skills and knowledge on AAP.
  • Following the assessment of partners' and volunteers' capacities, the consultant will need to customize the training materials to align with the participants' level of understanding. Subsequently, a tailored training plan will be formulated.
  • Complete the orientation program provided by UNICEF (and the module development agency), and subsequently develop training programs focused on, IPC (Interpersonal Communication) and AAP (Accountability to Affected Populations)
  • In collaboration with the SBC Officer and SBC Unit, the consultant will create the training agenda for the sessions mentioned. This agenda will be designed with a focus on adult learning principles and participatory methodologies.
  • The consultant will have to recruit an individual who will assist the trainer and collaborate as a co-facilitator during the training sessions.
  1. Deliver five (3-days) trainings of trainers (ToT) on Interpersonal Communication (IPC) to Implementing partners in Sittwe, Myitkyina, Taunggyi, Lashio, Magway
    • The consultant is responsible for designing a comprehensive three-day training plan focused on basic community mobilization and IPC training for sectoral partners.
    • The consultant must create a detailed training agenda, develop PowerPoint presentations, secure core trainers, and arrange for group facilitators for the in-person ToT program, accommodating approximately 25 participants.
    • Additionally, the consultant tasked with procuring stationery supplies for participants, including training materials like flipcharts, marker pens, and other essential items, as well as handouts.
    • The consultant is required to prepare pre- and post-test questionnaires to assess the participants' knowledge before and after the training sessions.
    • Upon the completion of each training, the consultant is expected to prepare and submit the IPC training report.
  2. Deliver five(3-days) training of trainers (ToT) on Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP) for partner staff in three states/regions (Maungdaw, Yangon, Mawlamyine, Magway)
    • The consultant is expected to adapt the AAP training modules and packages provided by UNICEF.
    • The consultant is responsible for developing a comprehensive three-day training plan focused on Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP).
    • The consultant is also responsible for organizing in-person Training of Trainers (ToT) sessions, conducted in the Myanmar language, with approximately 30 participants. This includes preparing a training agenda, creating PowerPoint presentations, developing case scenarios, and selecting group facilitators.
    • The consultant will need to design pre and post-test questionnaires to assess the participants' knowledge before and after the training sessions.
    • The consultant is expected to share all training resources, including PowerPoint slides and the trainer guide, with the participants to enable them to replicate the training in the future.
    • After completing the training sessions in all targeted areas, the consultant is required to submit a comprehensive training report to UNICEF.
    • Upon the completion of each training, the consultant is expected to prepare and submit the AAP training report.

Duty Station: Home-based/remote assignment with travels to training locations

Duration of the Contract: 11months. Delivery-based.

Description of Assignment:

Task 1:

Assessing training requirements by conducting in-person or virtual consultations with partners and community volunteers and formulating comprehensive training strategies • Scoping exercises conduced with partners. • Training modules for AAP trainings adapted based on the needs emerged from scoping exercise. • Complete the orientation session provided by UNICEF (and the module development agency) • Training plans for IPC and AAP trainings developed • Recruitment of an assistant trainer

Deliver five (3-days) trainings of trainers (ToT) on Interpersonal Communication (IPC) to Implementing partners of the education section in Sittwe, Myitkyina, Taunggyi, Lashio, Magway • Designing of three-day training plan for IPC • Development of training resources including agenda, pre/post test questions, stationaries, handouts, certificates, etc., • Preparation of training reports

Deliverable 2:

- Completion of targeted IPC trainings - Training reports on IPC submitted

Timeline: 30 June 2024

Task 3:

Deliver five (3-days) training of trainers (ToT) on Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP) for partner staff in three states/regions (Maungdaw, Yangon, Mawlamyine, Magway) • Designing of three-day training plan for AAP • Development of training resources including agenda, pre/post test questions, stationaries, handouts, certificates, etc., • Preparation of training reports

Deliverable 3:

- Completion of targeted AAP trainings - Training reports on AAP submitted

Duty Station/ Travel: The assignment is homebased. However, requires field travels. The selected consultant will travel to the towns (Sittwe, Myitkyina, Taunggyi, Lashio, Magway, Maungdaw, Yangon, Mawlamyine). Overall, 60 days of travel is estimated for the assignment. The estimated travel frequency and locations are described as below.

The consultant will have to arrange the transportation and accommodation for the assistant trainer at the training locations.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Relevant university degree/diploma/certificate in education, communication, social science, or any other related field.
  • Minimum five-year experience in facilitating trainings and workshops to community members, volunteers, facilitators and staff of humanitarian and development organizations.
  • Knowledge of the interpersonal communication skills (IPC) and principles of Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP).
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience in community engagement activities.
  • Excellent skill on report writing.
  • Knowledge of UNICEF, UN, I/NGOs programmes and Myanmar context is required.
  • Experience of working with UNICEF or other UN agencies is a plus

Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
