Purpose of Activity/ Assignment

This consultancy will provide the interpretation services for the assigned tasks (as well as consecutive interpretation of ad-hoc meetings) and deliver the expected outputs as stated in the description of assignment.

Child protection section will hire a national consultant to undertake interpretation services from Myanmar to English and English to Myanmar for regular lawyer network meetings and Community of Practice sessions.

Duty Station/Travel:

The assignment is homebased. However, requires field travels and in-person in donor meetings and some Trainings. The selected consultant will travel two times to the towns Yangon- Nay Pyi Taw - Yangon. Overall, 3 to 5 days per travel is estimated for the assignment.

How can you make a difference?

Description of Assignment:

Tasks 1:

Interpretation services for quarterly lawyer network meetings (online)

Deliverables:

Interpretation services, 6 network meetings, 3hrs/ meeting, total 6 days (Payment will be based on the actual services delivered)

Tasks 2:

Interpretation services for meeting with DSC and individual lawyers (online)

Deliverables:

Interpretation services, total 20 days, 2hrs/meeting (Payment will be based on actual services delivered)

Tasks 3:

Interpretation services for meeting with international lawyers (online, 5 days in person)

Deliverables:

Interpretation services total 16 days, 2hrs/meeting (Payment will be made on the actual services delivered)

Tasks 4:

Interpretation services for the in-person training of trainers TOT on Child Protection minimum standards in Humanitarian Action and Child Protection in Emergencies (in-person)

Deliverables:

Provide simultaneous translation for an in-person training of trainers August 5th to August 8th 2024 from 8:30 Am to 5 Pm for four days in Yangon.

Simultaneous translation devices will be provided to participants and facilitators and the consultant will be required to provide the Myanmar language/ Burmese simultaneous translation for the 4 days.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Bachelor's degree in English or other closely related fields with relevant experience
  • Minimum five years of relevant professional extensive work experience in translation and immediate interpretation from Myanmar to English and vice versa
  • Previous working experience with the governments, UN or other international development organizations will be considered an advantage
  • Written and verbal fluency in both Myanmar and English languages, particularly for translation and interpretation services
  • Good understanding of Child Protection terminology particularly law, policy, regulation, directives and procedures under existing legislation, and programme contextual background in Myanmar would be an asset
  • Ability to work and deliver very high-quality services of translation/interpretation without supervision to meet the TOR and urgent deadlines as required
  • The selected candidate should have the ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and establish harmonious and effective working relationships both within and outside the organization

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
