UNICEF Azerbaijan, in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and with funding support from the Embassy of the Netherlands, is implementing the "Empowering Young Girls with Skills Development and Community Engagement Activities" project (the project) in Lankaran. The aim of the project is to empower young people by providing support for learning, development, and community engagement opportunities. The project components include capacity-building activities such as training sessions on basic life skills, financial literacy, social entrepreneurship, basic research skills, and community engagement activities through UNICEF's global UpShift program.

It will be based at the Lankaran Youth House, utilizing their existing resources whenever feasible and engaging external service providers or consultants as needed. Training on the Basic Life Skills (BLS) and a new module on Gender Equality has already been provided in the first phase of the project.

Support is needed for the coordination of capacity development activities which include overseeing interventions such as Social Entrepreneurship, Financial Literacy Training, and the UpShift Bootcamp, as well as coordinating the delivery of research work and community initiatives.

How can you make a difference?

Scope of Work:

  1. Managing communication and overall coordination of the program, including the Social Entrepreneurship training, Financial Literacy training, community engagements, and the UpShift program, including the selection of applicants, coordination of training sessions (including UpShift Bootcamp), design and communication work, and overall management of the interventions.

  2. Conducting research with young people, preparing reports, and supporting their community initiatives (at least 6 initiatives).

  3. Managing Social Entrepreneurship training (2 days) and UpShift Bootcamp (3 days).

Managing communication and overall coordination of the program, including the Social Entrepreneurship training, Financial Literacy training, community engagements, and the UpShift program, including the selection of applicants, coordination of training sessions (including UpShift Bootcamp), design and communication work, and overall management of the interventions.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field such as Education, Skills building, behaviour change, social and economic sciences and teaching.
  • At least 3 years of professional work experience in the field of social work, child/adolescent development, and/or support to volunteer/youth activities.
  • Understanding of youth participation principles, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Strong organizational, coordination and management skills to effectively plan, execute, and monitor project activities. Excellent communication and facilitation skills to engage and motivate participants effectively.
  • Experience in working with developmental partners, including UN, and governmental partners.
  • Previous work experience with NGOs and volunteers.
  • Excellent Azerbaijani communication and writing skills.
  • Candidates based in Lankaran will be given a preference.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
