Overview

Create dynamic multimedia displays and content for African artworks.

You have:

  • Advanced university degree in multimedia, graphic design, visual arts, fine arts, creative arts, technical production, visual communication, or related area is required.
  • Five years' experience in multimedia software applications such as Adobe Creative Suite, 3D software, and interactive development tools is required.
  • Fluency in oral and written English is required.
  • Knowledge of French is desirable.
  • Knowledge of coding languages beneficial for interactive experiences, such as JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS.
  • Proficiency in video production and editing, including motion graphics and visual effects is desirable.
  • Experience with augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) content creation.
  • Prior experience in a similar role within museums, exhibitions, events spaces is desirable.

Result of Service

Generally, the work of the consultant will include digitization of selected African artworks and, the development of dynamic interactive multimedia displays including short documentaries, films, audio, and visual materials on the three thematic areas. The stories should be in simple language, easy-to-understand language and logical sequencing of the multimedia stories.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Knowledge Management Services Section (KMSS) in the Publication, Conference and Knowledge Management Division (PCKMD) is seeking to recruit a talented and innovative Multimedia Specialist to be part of the newly renovated Africa Hall Visitors Centre Content development team. The Team is tasked with the delivery of multimedia content for the mobile and permanent exhibitions in the Africa Hall Visitors Centre along the selected themes of Pan Africanism and African culture & Heritage and footprint of the United Nations in the socioeconomic development of Africa. This role requires a blend of creativity, technical prowess, and an understanding of interactive design principles to create captivating content that enhances user experiences in various environments such as museums, exhibitions, and events. Key Responsibilities: 1. Design and produce high-quality multimedia content for various interactive platforms, including but not limited to projections, touch screens, VR/AR setups, and other interactive displays. 2. Collaborate with designers, developers, and project managers to conceptualize and execute multimedia projects from inception to completion. 3. Develop storyboards, prototypes, and mockups to visualize and plan multimedia content. 4. Create animations, video footage, graphics, and audio elements that align with project goals and user experiences. 5. Utilize software and tools for 2D/3D design, video editing, and animation (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, After Effects, Cinema 4D, Unity, Unreal Engine). 6. Ensure multimedia content is optimized for performance and compatibility across various devices and platforms. 7. Implement interactive elements and user interfaces that are intuitive and engaging. 8. Conduct user testing and gather feedback to iterate and improve multimedia content. 9. Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in interactive design and multimedia production. 10. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to multimedia content delivery. 11. Perform other assignments requested by the supervisors and related to KMSS mission and activities.

Qualifications/special skills

Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in multimedia, graphic design, visual arts, fine arts, creative arts, technical production, visual communication, or related area is required. A first level university degree in a combination of additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the master's degree. Five years’ experience in multimedia software applications such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere Pro), 3D software (Cinema 4D, Maya, Blender), and interactive development tools (Unity, Unreal Engine) is required. Knowledge of coding languages beneficial for interactive experiences, such as JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS and Background in UX/UI design. Proficiency in video production and editing, including motion graphics and visual effects is desirable. Experience with augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) content creation. Familiarity with interactive hardware such as touch screens, projection systems, and sensor-based interfaces. Prior experience in a similar role within museums, exhibitions, events spaces is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable.
