PURPOSE OF POSITION

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), is the cancer agency of the World Health Organization (WHO) and is based in Lyon, France. The objective of the

IARC is to promote international collaboration in cancer research.

The mission of the IARC Learning and Capacity Building Branch (LCB) is to coordinate various IARC training initiatives and to promote them both internally and externally.

One of the growing activities of LCB is to develop and maintain the IARC Learning Portal, aimed at enhancing professional continuous development opportunities for internal and external cancer researchers and health professionals. The portal is the entry door to three free thematic learning platforms (Biobanking, Cancer Prevention and Early Detection and World Cancer Report Updates). It also links to the IARC WebTV (see below), including the Summer School video channel, as well as to the websites from other IARC-led projects providing information and learning material on Cancer Surveillance and on the Exposome. Besides the maintenance and further development of this infrastructure, LCB has been increasingly developing eLearning material.

The aim of the position is to support the further development of the IARC Learning Portal and the development of its contents, with multimedia, infographics, and eLearning design and development skills and experience.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under the supervision of the Project Assistant in charge of the development and management of IARC Learning, and in close collaboration with the other Project Assistants in the LCB Branch, the incumbent is expected to:

  1. Coordinate the design, production and/or dissemination of the eLearning material using a whole range of tools including but not limited to: Adobe Aftereffect, Articulate Storyline, Rise, Webflow, etc..
  2. Contribute to the re-design of the International Agency for Research on Cancer “IARC” Learning portal to be in line with the new IARC visual identity.
  3. Produce static and/or animated infographics and visual elements that are tailored for different learning topics and for communication campaigns
  4. Provide video editing services for different learning teaching material such as World Cancer Report learning webinars
  5. Design learning courses’ teasers to brief and attract potential learners.
  6. Identify and report on best emerging practices and tools for the production of multimedia and eLearning materials (e.g. through online search, relevant communities of practice or partners such as the WHO Academy).
  7. Support the set-up of eLearning production tools and processes including but not limited to deployment of IARC video recordings and the development of users’ training manuals and other guidance material .

COVID-19 MEASURES

Due to the evolving situation resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic, and depending on work requirements, this position may be partly occupied remotely, from the home of the candidate selected in the region Lyon, according to the teleworking clause for force majeure currently in force as part of the IARC teleworking policy during this pandemic period.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

Essential: Graduation from secondary school, Brevet de technicien supérieur “BTS” or equivalent level) complemented by a training in communication, education, arts & humanities, management or relevant field.

Desirable: Formal qualification in graphic design, multimedia, and/or web development.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Essential: At least three years' experience in similar position(s) involving multimedia development, graphical design, video recording/editing, training/eLearning material development (e.g. using tools such as Articulate, Storyline), website development and/or administration of web content/learning management system (e.g. WordPress, Moodle).

Desirable: UN experience or experience in international, inter-governmental work setting with a sound knowledge of rules, practices and procedures; project management experience

USE OF LANGUAGE SKILLS

Expert English is essential (read, written and spoken). Intermediate or higher level of French is desirable.

SKILLS

  • Proven ability to multi-task while maintaining a rigorous attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Solid knowledge of animation, eLearning design (storyboarding) and development.
  • Excellent graphic design skills.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with relevant tools and software such as Adobe Creative Cloud software suite, Articulate Storyline, WordPress and Moodle.
  • Good knowledge of other relevant tools such as online surveys, newsletters)

REMUNERATION

The fixed remuneration for the above position currently amounts to EUR 3,196 per month, and is expressed net of income tax but before deduction of the employee share contributions for mandatory participation in the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF) and in the Organization’s private insurance plans covering health, accident, illness and disability.

Other benefits include different types of leave and allowances for dependent family members.

Employment status is that of an international civil servant.

Note: due to the legal status of WHO/IARC as an international organization, its staff do not contribute to and do not generate benefits in French mandatory schemes for health insurance (“assurance maladie”), pension (“assurance vieillesse/retraite or unemployment (“Pôle-Emploi”) throughout their period of employment with the Agency.
