This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the National Program Officer (Coordinator) of the Centre, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Plan and execute activities to assess the statistical capacities of the countries in the region and produce national assessment reports;
  • Perform methodologically innovative research on new/emerging topics in the areas of crime and criminal justice;
  • Liaise with relevant stakeholders to collect data, analyse and disseminate outputs;
  • Develop a sustainable and focused capacity-building program (training, advisory services, peer-to-peer support, etc.) to countries in the region;
  • Develop training curricula and materials on relevant crime-related topics and emerging issues, including through e-learning platforms;
  • Organize workshops and regional events to promote the implementation of the Internationally developed methodological tools on the collection and production of crime and criminal justice statistics;
  • Organize, participate in and provide substantive input to the Project Steering Committee and Regional Advisory Group meetings, and other relevant meetings with stakeholders and partners;
  • Prepare various written outputs, e.g. background documentation, talking points, proposals, concept notes, analysis, reports, inputs to publications, etc.;
  • As part of a team, promote knowledge management to ensure access to best available expertise and facilitate organizational learning;
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Master degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

Advanced higher degree (Master’s or equivalent) in a relevant area, e.g. statistics, criminology, law, sociology, international relations, public administration, or area related to crime and criminal justice;

A first-level university degree or equivalent in combination with relevant training and/or professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.

Required experience:

60 Months

Experience remark:

  • At least 5 years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in dealing with statistics, public policies, capacity building, or other relevant programmes;
  • Experience with crime and criminal just data is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization;
  • Direct experience with sample survey process, i.e. planning, sampling, questionnaire design, field work, data processing/editing, analysing/interpreting, and dissemination, etc. is desirable.

Language skills:

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • Korean(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge
