Org. Setting and Reporting

This position is located in the Office of the Chief Mission Support of the United Nations Mission to support the Hudaydah Agreement (UNMHA). The position is based in Hudaydah which is classified as an "E" category non-family duty station.

Responsibilities

Under the general supervision of the Senior Administrative Office the Medical Officer will be responsible for the following duties:

Clinical Duties: • Undertakes day-to-day clinical duties, e.g. walk-in clinic, manage emergencies, and coordinate medical evacuations • Undertake day-to-day occupational health duties: pre-placement and periodic medical examinations, prepare UN staff for travelling providing immunizations, malaria prophylaxis, travel kits, etc. • Refers staff to outside medical specialists and follows up as necessary. • Provides health education and health promotion programs. • Participates in addressing work environment and occupational health issues. • Attends to medical Duty Calls after working hours

Medical Administrative Duties: • Coordinates medical activities the UNDP clinic, Department of Operational Support and Medical and Occupational Safety and Health (DMOSH), and host-medical facilities • Follows the United Nations established policies and procedures regarding medical clearances, sick leave and medical evacuations/repatriations. • Participates in drafting and implementation of business continuity and crisis preparedness plans for the duty station/mission.

Supervisory Administration: • Oversees the outsourced contractor medical team providing medical services within the mission in Hudaydah, Yemen, ensuring compliance with UN standards. • Leads emergency preparedness and response activities, coordinating with medical contractors and other relevant parties. • Manages day-to-day mission medical support operations by ensuring availability of medical supplies and proper functioning of medical equipment. • Ensures appropriate training programs are implemented in order to maintain and develop the medical capabilities (e.g. health education, HIV/AIDS prevention, first aid and CPR).

General: • Performs other related duties as required.

Work implies frequent interaction with the following: • Staff at large; staff within work unit; • Staff counsellors; • Senior management throughout the organization; • All specialized agencies; • Physicians and representatives of laboratories, pharmaceutical companies, medical associations and societies.

Competencies

Professionalism: Knowledge of clinical, occupational and tropical/travel medicine. Formal training in CPR and, preferably in BCLS and ACLS or equivalent emergency medical care. Education

A Doctorate (MD) or equivalent in medicine, including residency/internship in one of the medical specialties, preferably internal medicine is required. Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.

Work Experience

A minimum of five years of progressively responsible clinical experience in one of the areas of medicine is required.

Experience in managing a medical team is required.

Formal training in CPR with Basic Cardio Life Support training is required.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support training is desirable.

Experience with pandemic response in a United Nations Common System field operation (inclusive of peacekeeping missions, Agencies, Funds and Programmes) or similar international organizations or non-governmental organization in a conflict or post-conflict setting is desirable.

Experience with coordinating / participating in professional medical networks is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the official working languages of the UN Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required and knowledge of Arabic is desirable.
