The External Relations (ER) department was built in early 2020 and is comprised of 3 main but complementary functional areas: Private fundraising, Communications and Advocacy. The department is in the beginning stages of creating a new bold strategy that will enhance IRC’s ability to ‘punch above its weight’ in private income, advocacy, and brand awareness.

Supporting this endeavor, and an integral part of ER, is the Global Partnerships and Philanthropic Services (GPPS) Unit. GPPS consists of functional specialists across a variety of high-value fundraising support functions providing all elements of cultivation, support, and stewardship to high-value donors, partners, and supporters. The candidate has an exciting opportunity to join GPPS’s Prospect Research & Management team and advance our aspirational high value (HV) goals and vision.

Job Overview

Prospect research and management is the foundation of HV fundraising, providing insight and recommendations to fundraisers to make informed, data driven and timely decisions progressing constituents through the donor journey in line with organizational priorities. Our work supports IRC’s sustainability by finding opportunities for funding, focusing our resources, and protecting its reputation through due diligence. We empower fundraisers and our leadership to make effective, donor centric decision-making.

In this role, you will report to the Associate Director, Prospect Management and Information Systems, supporting funding opportunities for International Partnerships and Philanthropy (IPP), working closely with Global Prospect Research and IPP fundraisers with the express aim of identifying HV prospects. The role focuses particular attention on facilitating the identification, research, tracking and movement of corporate, foundation, and globally based high net worth individual prospects through the donor cycle.

Major Responsibilities

• Collaborate on the development of IPP’s prospect management system.

• Move prospects and donors in and out of portfolios and pipeline.

• Conceptualize and maintain reporting for moves management, prospect identification and tracking, data integrity, and team metrics for the purpose of identifying gaps, opportunities, and improving workflow to meet fundraising goals.

• Identify ways to leverage research and fundraiser data in the CRM to achieve more analytical reporting and insights to help fundraisers meet their goals.

• Lead on team process improvements and documentation of policies and guidelines.

• Support execution of portfolio review meetings to assist fundraisers on challenges and opportunities within portfolios and on individual constituents.

• Develop systemic use of prospecting resources (internal data mining, screenings by vendors, external lists and publications, conferences/events, donor networks etc.)

• Promote teams’ services to colleagues through guidance, trainings, and reports.

• Stay informed on institutional programs and industry specific changes that are relevant to global philanthropy and the humanitarian field.

Qualifications

Work & Educational Experience

• 1-3 years of relevant experience, including at least one year of experience in research or data analysis required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Experience using a relational database management system required.

• Demonstrated understanding of fundraising principles and practices.

• Proficiency doing research using online research databases and other resources.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies

• Strong presentation and writing skills and ability to analyze and synthesize data.

• Strong organizational and time-management skills; proven ability to prioritize and deliver on time.

• High attention to detail and accuracy.

• Critical thinking and problem solving.

• Organizational: able to handle multiple tasks, learn quickly, and work independently and productively in a dynamic environment

• Ability to work both independently and in a dynamic, cross-functional team structure.

• Strong dedication to customer service required.

• Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to successfully work in a fast-paced environment, within and across departments/functions and develop positive relationships with staff internationally.

• English language fluency.

Preferred Experience & Skills

• Knowledge and curiosity about emerging concepts and practices in the field of strategic philanthropy overall, and prospect research and management specifically.

• Ability to act with sensitivity and discretion while working with highly confidential information.

• Prior experience working at an international organization.

• Proficiency in a language other than English.

Working Environment:

This role is remote full-time role. Applicants will need a home or alternate workspace they can effectively complete their work from during regularly scheduled hours.

Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
