Withinthe framework of the WHO/Kenya Country Cooperation Strategy (CCS), the specific objectives of the UCN cluster to which the incumbent will contribute, are to: (i) provide leadership on disease control coordination, partnership and resource mobilization; (ii) contribute to the development of WHO disease control technical products, services and tools including adoption of new technologies and innovations; (iii) support generation and use of strategic information for action and decision making including optimizing investment; and (iv) provide or facilitate provision of technical support in deployment of WHO technical products and services and institutional capacity building, including support to national disease programmes and regulatory authorities.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
- Contribute to WHO leadership for malaria vaccine implementation in Kenya;
- Support adoption and adaptation of WHO technical products and tools for malaria vaccination;
- Provide technical support on malaria vaccination to the national malaria and immunization programmes, facilitating coordination and collaboration between Kenya’s malaria and immunization programmes towards optimal coverage of targeted populations and impact on malaria morbidity and mortality;
- Contribute to the development of multi-year and annual operational plans for malaria vaccination as well as relevant job aides and advocacy materials; support advocacy for malaria vaccine optimization in Kenya;
- Support monitoring and supervision of malaria vaccination activities in targeted counties and sub-counties including analysis and use of data for priority actions and interventions aimed at enhancing investment efficiencies.
- Contribute to partnership building for malaria vaccination including strengthening participation of endemic communities, private sector and non-health sector stakeholders in the targeted counties.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor or WHO Representative
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Essential: University degree in Medicine or other health related field. Desirable:Training in medical epidemiology, malaria and/or vaccinology. Master's degree in Public Health
Experience
Essential: At least two (2) years of experience in in planning, management and implementation of malaria control interventions or management of immunization system. Desirable: Working experience with the WHO or other international experience would be an asset. A minimum of 3 years of working experience in large public health projects would be an asset. Experience of work in the field of vector control in humanitarian emergency situation.
Skills
- Expert knowledge of either malaria control or vaccinology/immunization systems and working knowledge of the other
- Working knowledge of the use of data for action including use of data for malaria or communicable diseases stratification and interventions tailoring.
- Ability to establish effective networks and working relationships with people of different nationalities and cultural background.
- Computer skills - Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and data analysis, browsing and information searching on the internet.
