Overview

Design high-quality publications for UNICEF's fundraising initiatives.

You have:

  • University degree in graphic design or comparable academic qualifications required.
  • At least five years of professional graphic design experience is required.
  • Ability to follow creative briefs and produce accurate artwork which is in line with the UNICEF brand guidelines required.
  • Experience of working for an international organization or an NGO is desirable.
  • Familiarity with the UNICEF Style Book and Graphic Manual is required.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language such as French and/or Spanish is considered an asset.
  • Excellent knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite products, such as InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop is required.
  • Ability to translate data into compelling infographics is required.
  • Good working knowledge of Geographic mapping software such as GIS is an asset.

The Division of Private Fundraising and Partnerships (PFP), based in Geneva, and the Division of Public Partnership (PPD), based in New York, drives fundraising and engagement with the private and public sectors.

The Programme Coordination Unit which supports both Divisions and enables colleagues across the organization to leverage game changing partnerships with UNICEF’s partners. The Programme Coordination Unit develops a range of publications targeted at numerous audiences including business, philanthropy, bilaterals and multilaterals, foundations, and individuals. These publications will need to be presented in a professional and high-quality manner, as such will require to have high quality designing.

How can you make a difference?

The purpose of the LTA is to design quality creative and compelling publications that can be used by fundraisers to raise resources for children's programmes.

Under the guidance of the Chief, Programme Coordination Unit and supervision of the respective content owner, the consultant will undertake the following tasks in accordance with the UNICEF's Global Brand Guidelines and Graphics Manual: Layout, design and develop templates and final products for the documents as outlined below and agreed between unit and the designer.

OBJECTIVE(S)

The overall objective is to set up a Long-Term Agreement to facilitate and expedite the process by which the Partnerships section, PFP will hire a Graphic Designer for specific projects to layout, design and develop templates for the documents for Global Reports, Investment Cases and Major Propositions and PowerPoint decks.

MAJOR TASKS TO BE ACCOMPLISHED

  • Laying out, designing and developing templates for the Global Reports and Investment Cases, in English and other languages into which they are translated
  • Working with writers to develop key graphics, charts, illustrations, or iconography that will enhance the overall communication of the topic.

Responsibilities of the Consultant:

  • The consultant will use their own equipment; laptops, microphones, software and other accessories that may be required for this task.
  • The consultant will not give the content/material or any part thereof, to any third party without the written permission of UNICEF. All components will be a property of UNICEF, and the consultant will not share the same with anyone else.
  • The consultant will not put their own name or logo/emblem on the content / final product. The only organization branding will be UNICEF, if required.
  • regular liaison with manager and content owners and any related units.

    Responsibilities of UNICEF:

  • UNICEF will provide all details pertaining to the activity and the requirements

  • UNICEF will orient the consultant on UNICEF’s branding guidelines
  • UNICEF will share the documents and specifications with the consultant as he/she becomes available and will coordinate the timely delivery of work

DELIVERABLES

1. Global reports: Annual Core Resources for Results (Regular Resource) Report and Annual Global Thematic Report is designed, as guided by contractor.

2. A collection of global and regional investment cases across UNICEF’s SP Goal Areas; these include both full length and short versions and PowerPoint decks: A collection of global and regional investment cases across UNICEF’s SP Goal Areas designed, as guided by contractor, timeline to be agreed.

TRAVEL (OPTIONAL)

The consultant is expected to work remotely. All assignments will be sent electronically, and all communication will take place by email and skype. There is no travel envisioned.

Education:

  • University degree in graphic design or comparable academic qualifications required

Experience:

  • At least five years of professional graphic design experience is required.
  • Ability to follow creative briefs and produce accurate artwork which is in line with the UNICEF brand guidelines required
  • Experience of working for an international organization or an NGO is desirable
  • Experience of working with printing and production companies is desirable

  • Familiarity with the UNICEF Style Book and Graphic Manual is required

  • An understanding of child rights and related technical terms and language is desirable

Language:

  • Fluency in English is required. knowledge of another official UN language such French and/ or Spanish is considered as an asset.

Others:

  • Ability to deliver products on time, a keen attention to detail and within budget is desirable
  • Excellent knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite products, such as InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop is required
  • Excellent graphic design skills are required

  • Solid portfolio of design work is required

  • Ability to translate data into compelling infographics is required
  • Strong organization and planning skills is an asset
  • Ability to work independently and with teams in the field is an asset
  • Good working knowledge of PowerPoint and other Office platforms is required

  • Good working knowledge of Geographic mapping software such as GIS is an asset

Remarks:

  3. Three Work Samples – This includes three previously designed human-interest stories / reports / advertising materials / content created / proposal. It is critical to submit work samples, including samples of artwork which is in line with the UNICEF brand guidelines as you will observe from the advertisement that marks have been assigned to these criteria for arriving at the most suitable candidate (to be uploaded online).

  4. A financial proposal indicating professional fee as per the above template. Please do not forget to specify your name in the file while saving. (to be uploaded online under “Financial Proposal” tab).

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract.
