UNICEF has set ambitious goals in its 2022-2025 Strategic Plan to accelerate progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Division of Private Fundraising and Partnerships (PFP), based in Geneva, supports this mission by maximizing UNICEF's private sector fundraising, partnerships, and engagement activities, including work with National Committees, regional and country offices, and other HQ Divisions. The global Innovative Financing for Children (IF4C) initiative is central to these goals, helping address complex global challenges like climate change and disasters that disproportionately affect the most vulnerable children and adolescents.

The PFP IF4C team is tasked with finding innovative alternative financing and funding solutions and partnerships to accelerate progress towards the SDGs for children by 2030. This is achieved through identifying, capacitating, driving, and scaling innovative approaches to financing and investing in children across a diverse spectrum of public and private sector capital. The Strategy, Business & Partnerships Consultant will be instrumental in supporting these efforts.

PURPOSE OF ASSIGNMENT:

The Fundraising Specialist Consultant will support the PFP IF4C team by supporting primarily back-office fundraising functions such as conducting donor mapping and deep-dive research, compiling donor profiles, pipeline- building, drafting funding proposals, case for support, investment cases, decks/presentation, pitches, interim and final donor reports, event management and delivering relevant fundraising trainings. The role involves supporting fundraising efforts for IF4C priority Tier 1 and other IF4C relevant products.

OBJECTIVE(S):

Overall: To support resource mobilization from the private (foundations, corporate, HNWIs/philanthropists, faith-based organizations etc.) and public sectors (including multilaterals and development banks) by providing back-office support for key IF4C initiatives and Tier 1 projects:

  • To conduct donor mapping, deep-dive research, compiling donor profile & pipeline- building
  • To formulate funding proposals, case for support, value proposition, investment cases, decks/presentation, pitches, interim and final donor reports and other relevant fundraising tools
  • To organize and manage fundraising and other relevant events and deliver relevant fundraising training.
  • To support senior management meetings with donors via drafting Briefing Notes (BNs) and other supporting materials.

How can you make a difference?

Major Tasks:

  • Research and Pipeline Development: donor mapping, deep-dive research, donor profile & pipeline- building for IF4C investment opportunities pipeline for Tier 1 projects, coordinating with relevant divisions and partners.
  • Fundraising tools and collateral: drafting funding proposals, case for support, investment cases, decks/presentation, pitches, interim and final donor reports and other relevant fundraising tools in collaboration and consultation with relevant stakeholders such as COs, NatComms, PG, etc. multiple HQ divisions.
  • Event management and training/workshops: organize and manage fundraising and other relevant events and deliver relevant fundraising training.
  • Donor meetings with Senior Management: To support senior management meetings with donors via drafting Briefing Notes (BNs) and other supporting materials.

Responsibilities of the Consultant:

  • The consultant will use their own equipment; laptops, microphones, software and other accessories that may be required for this task.
  • The consultant will not give the content/material or any part thereof, to any third party without the written permission of UNICEF. All components will be a property of UNICEF, and the consultant will not share the same with anyone else.
  • The consultant will not put their own name or logo/emblem on the content / final product. The only organization branding will be UNICEF, if required.
  • regular liaison with manager and content owners and any related units.

Responsibilities of UNICEF:

  • UNICEF will provide all details pertaining to the activity and the requirements.
  • UNICEF will orient the consultant on UNICEF’s branding guidelines.
  • UNICEF will share the documents and specifications with the consultant as he/she becomes available and will coordinate the timely delivery of work.

Travel:

There is a possibility of travel on a per-need basis and UNICEF will cover the travel expenses.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education:

  • An advanced university degree (master’s degree or higher) in international development, finance, economics, public/business administration, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level degree (bachelor’s degree) with additional 2 years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in finance, impact investing, fund development, project management, or consulting is required.
  • Proven experience in business analysis, innovative finance solutions, and incubating high-capacity initiatives is required.
  • Experience working with diverse global partners, particularly in Europe, is desirable.
  • Experience in/knowledge of the UN system and knowledge of UNICEF’s work would be a strong asset

Language:

  • Fluency in English is required. knowledge of another official UN language is considered an asset.

Others:

  • Strategic thinking, analytical ability, and experience in fundraising/capital formation with diverse stakeholders is an asset.
  • Proven ability to work in multicultural environments and with cross-functional teams is an asset
