UNICEF, the world’s leading children's rights organization, is dedicated to advocating for the protection and promotion of children's rights across the globe. In Jordan, UNICEF collaborates with the government and civil society to advance the rights of Jordanian children through a variety of development programs. This LTA aims to engage a skilled character designer/illustrator to aid these efforts through visual storytelling and character creation.

How can you make a difference?

To develop engaging and impactful character designs and illustrations that convey the narratives of children's experiences and rights effectively to a global audience.

1. Deliverable 1: Character Illustration: 2D and 3D Animation Character Design Sheets.

2. Deliverable 2: Storyboarding: Illustrated Scenes and Storyboards.

3. Deliverable 3: Graphic Design: Child-Friendly Graphics.

4. Deliverable 4: Digital Assets: Digital files (PSD, AI, PNG, JPEG).

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Candidates are free to apply to any category of writers based on their qualifications and experience. They can also apply for multiple categories or all of them. UNICEF will award LTA to top ranked 3-5 candidates under each category. A candidate may be awarded LTA for one or more than one category.

Category 1: Illustrators and Character Designers for Visual Storytelling

  1. Educational Requirements: A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Illustration, Animation, Fine Arts, or related fields. In lieu of a degree, 3 years of professional experience or a diploma in a relevant field may be considered.
  2. Professional Experience: At least 5 years of experience in illustration and character design, with a strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in creating original characters, environments, and narrative illustrations.
  3. Specialized Skills:
  • Proficiency in traditional and digital illustration tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and digital drawing tablets.
  • Strong ability to create a wide range of characters, from humans to fantastical creatures, that resonate with diverse audiences and fit various narrative contexts.
  • Skill in developing detailed character sheets that include multiple views, expressions, and poses to guide consistent character depiction across various media.
  1. Portfolio Requirements: Must include examples of character designs, storyboards, and completed illustrations that showcase a capability to convey stories and emotions visually.
  2. Experience with Narrative Development: Ability to collaborate with writers and directors to transform scripts and ideas into visual representations that enhance the storytelling.
  3. Versatility and Creativity: Capable of adapting illustration and design style to match different project requirements, whether for educational content, entertainment media, or promotional materials.
  4. Communication Skills: Excellent ability to communicate conceptual ideas and details about artistic directions effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  5. Project Management: Experience managing timelines and delivering artistic components within the constraints of tight deadlines and budget requirements.

Category 2: Designers for Digital Content and Websites

  1. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Web Design, Interactive Media, Graphic Design, or related fields. A Diploma with 3 years of professional experience can be considered in place of the degree.
  2. At least 7 years of experience in creating visual content for websites, blogs, and other digital platforms.
  3. Desirable experience includes working with governmental or international organizations.
  4. Demonstrable skills in high-quality digital design and understanding of web usability standards.
  5. An excellent portfolio showcasing digital design work, preferably within the social development sector.
  6. Ability to research, design, and develop user-centric digital experiences.
  7. Competence in translating complex information into visually engaging digital narratives.
  8. Excellent project management skills, ensuring timely delivery of digital content.

Category 3: social media Graphic Designers

  1. A degree in Graphic Design, Digital Media, Marketing, or a related field is required. 3 years of professional experience and a diploma can also be accepted.
  2. Minimum of 5 years of experience specifically in social media design, digital marketing, or advertising.
  3. Experience in creating compelling visuals for social media campaigns that engage and motivate audiences.
  4. A portfolio that reflects high standards of creativity and effectiveness in social media content.
  5. Ability to conduct visual and thematic research to support social media strategies.
  6. Strong planning and communication skills, capable of managing multiple social media design projects.

Category 4: Motion Graphics Designers for Multimedia Content

  1. A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Motion Graphics, Animation, Graphic Design, or related disciplines. Relevant experience and a diploma may substitute for formal education.
  2. At least 5 years of experience in motion graphics design, with a portfolio demonstrating proficiency in creating animated graphics and visual effects.
  3. Proficiency with software such as Adobe After Effects, Cinema 4D, or similar tools.
  4. Experience in creating motion graphics for a range of media platforms including video, web, and digital displays.
  5. Strong storytelling skills, with the ability to translate messages into engaging and dynamic visual content.
  6. Capability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  7. A keen eye for detail and a passion for delivering high-quality visual content that enhances the viewer's experience.
  8. Experience collaborating with video editors, designers, and other creative team members to produce cohesive multimedia projects.

Language:

• Fluency in oral and written English is required

• Fluency in oral and written Arabic is required
