The positions are based in the Global Transport Centre at UNICEF Supply Division, Copenhagen. The Global Transport Centre is responsible for all transport from UNICEF warehouses or through direct deliveries from suppliers to UNICEF’s field offices and areas of operation.

The Shipping/Logistics Assistants are responsible for assistance with ensuring timely delivery of vaccines, including providing effective services to customers, ensuring accurate and timely process of requests and monitoring of shipments, with the overall goal of meeting the needs and requirements of the customers.

How can you make a difference?

The Shipping /Logistics Assistants perform all activities in compliance with the UNICEF Financial Rules and Regulations, Supply Division Manual and other applicable procurement procedures in order to ensure timely deliveries of vaccines including:

  1. Co-ordinate and ensure immunization related deliveries from manufacturers to recipient countries are made in a timely and efficient manner, including related communication with procurement staff within the respective Procurement Centre, manufacturers, freight forwarders and UNICEF Country Offices.
  2. Are responsible for the timely and cost-effective execution of UNICEF shipments.
  3. In liaison with forwarding agents arrange consolidation of shipments, taking into account programme priority, warehouse capacity, purchase order delivery dates and special requests from Field offices & Procurement Service Customers.
  4. Monitor Follows up on late deliveries and expedites reports provided by Freight Forwarders.
  5. Validate all shipping documents, bills of lading, airway bills, packing list etc, and update the relevant FLS data Fields. Distribute Shipping Reports/Government Receipts via e-mail to Field Offices.
  6. Work with manufacturers, freight forwarders and country offices to perform analysis of conditions of supplies shipped throughout shipment and inland destination.
  7. Perform analysis of vaccine shipping rates through UNICEF freight forwarders and make recommendations to business processes and contracts based on findings of analyses.
  8. Promptly address any incidents and complaints and assist in processing vaccine-related insurance claims by identifying and implementing Corrective and Preventive Action.
  9. Consolidate VAR and inspection results to ensure proper performance monitoring and identification of challenging countries.
  10. Provide operational support to the mobile application and web administration for VARs for all users.
  11. Any other duties or assignments as requested by the supervisor.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Requirements:

  • Completion of secondary education.
  • Five years of relevant working experience in logistics operations with a demonstrated knowledge of air freight shipping operations.
  • Minimum 1 year of shipping/logistics work experience in the past 5 years.
  • Ability to use common software suites.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office package, in particular Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Fluency in English

Desirables:

  • Additional training in Business or equivalent
  • Knowledge of SAP/ERP systems and data management skills
  • User skills in Power BI
  • Proficiency in another UN language (Arabic, Russian, Chinese, Spanish, French)

NB: UNICEF staff members globally and applicants who are EU nationals or in possession of a valid work permit for Denmark are eligible to apply. General Service (GS) staff are personally responsible for any travel and accommodation arrangements and UNICEF will not cover any costs related to relocation.
