Job Title : Logistics Officer

Duration : 1 year (Renewable)

Duty Station : Kumasi, Ghana

JOB PURPOSE:

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Country Director and overall supervision

of the Country Director, the staff will be responsible for the following duties:

  1. Lead the coordination and implementation of SNF (specialised nutritious foods) uplifts from supplier(s) to the relevant receiving corridors, including all LESS processing.
  2. Coordinate the activation of new corridors for SNFs from Ghana
  3. If necessary, setup of new logistics hubs/ transhipment points, in line with the regional/functional strategies, policies and plans, to achieve operational cost efficiency, agility, reliability and quality.
  4. Analyse context of country and/or region and lead the design and management of supply chain network, to proactively mitigate and/or address dynamic supply chain challenges, to ensure operational optimization.
  5. Design and manage the full lifecycle of project management, including planning, engaging with partners and key stakeholders, budgeting, strategically allocating material, and human resources, and ensure implementation and reporting.
  6. Supervise transport arrangements and contracting of all associated services on the corridors in accordance with established guidelines.
  7. Coordinate and manage service providers, port, fleet, superintendent, and warehouse operations to promote safe, efficient planning and execution of WFP operations.
  8. Coordinate with WFP Vessel Agents/Port Authorities in the region for smooth operations.
  9. Oversee that proper documents are received and submitted to local Authorities for vessel and overland shipments to ensure no delays in cargo clearance.
  10. Review and be aware of WFP Inspection & Superintendence arrangements to ensure adequate measures are in place for commodity quality control and any immediate actions can be taken to always safeguard the commodities and WFP interest.
  11. Ascertain logistics reporting and monitoring of dispatches and deliveries and quality control, if required.
  12. Gather market intelligence through research and networking, thus improving the knowledge basis available to Country Offices and Regional Bureau and use market analysis and research to recommend actions to Management to improve supply chain performance.
  13. Lead and motivate the logistics team providing coaching, training and guidance as required to ensure appropriate development and enable high performance.
  14. Oversee and prepare accurate and timely accounting, data collection and reporting, to inform supply planning and contribute to a WFP wide view of logistics activities, enabling informed decision making and consistency of information presented to stakeholders.
  15. Provide expert advice and guidance to WFP staff at all levels, partners, and governments, building capacity to effectively run corridors and hubs.
  16. Other tasks as required.

MINIMUM ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS

Advanced University degree preferably in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Economics, Business Administration, Logistics, or other related field, or First University degree with additional years of related supply chain work experience and/or training/courses and professional certification.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE:

    1. At least one (1) year of relevant professional experience in the field of Logistics/Supply Chain
    2. Experience coordinating suppliers or service providers’ contract execution.
    3. Experience coordinating supply chain activities with other units/ teams.
    4. Experience conducting analytical and conceptual work in support of strategy design and implementation.
    5. Experience in coordinating periodic planning across functions and with partners.
    6. Experience in analyzing and supporting the implementation of end-to-end supply chain operations.
    7. Experience working with WFP partners.
    8. Experience in implementing supply chain improvement initiatives

LANGUAGE: Fluency in English. (Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish or Portuguese is an added advantage
