One of main UNFPA roles in humanitarian response is commodity security and activating last miles assurance for essential medications and life saving commodities. One of the components of the UNFPA humanitarian assistance is the provision of humanitarian supplies/commodities. Under the overall guidance of Procurement and Logistics Specialist and direct supervision of Logistics/Supply Chain Specialist, the Logistics Assistant will be responsible to provide logistics, administrative, secretarial support, maintaining full confidentiality in all aspects of assignment; maintenance of protocol procedures, information flow and follow up on deadlines and commitments made.The Logistics Assistant performs logistics, administrative and secretarial support for UNFPA Afghanistan Country office in order to ensure proper and timely management of programme supplies to be delivered in the country. The Logistics Assistant provides organisational functions of the office in terms of providing effective communication between the main office in Kabul and other area offices in the country.

Under the direct supervision of UNFPA Afghanistan Logistics/Supply Chain Specialist, the logistics assistant will: Safeguarding of UNFPA programme supplies in Kabul warehouse, including:

• Prepare the goods for shipment to Kabul (e.g., arranging appropriate packaging, shipping documents) based on the related request from Logistics Focal Point. • Ensure adequate inventory storage and safeguarding conditions are always maintained. • Assess the warehouse used to store inventory on a regular basis as long as UNFPA inventory continues to be stored therein. The complete assessment report must be shared with Logistics Focal Point. • Regularly monitor product conditions, and any defects or damages identified to be reported promptly so that remedial actions can be taken. • Coordinate and executing all steps necessary for incoming/outgoing shipments. • Ensure the appropriate shipment documents are promptly completed, signed and properly filed. • Interact with third –party logistics service providers (WFP Logistics Cluster, Customs Clearance Agent/Company ant etc.). • Complete customs clearance activities in a timely manner, based on the country specific procedures. • Liaise with clearing agent and ensures timely availability of documentation. • Ensure data correctness to facilitate clearing. • Check all invoices for clearing/forwarding services against service requests. • Assist the Logistics Focal Point in reconciling on the inventory stocks. • Regularly report to the Logistics Focal Point on all aspects of the programme supplies stored. • Resolve any arising problems or complaints. • Any other duties as requested by the supervisor.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day). • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country. • Provide annual and end of assignment self- reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc. • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers. • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

This position will be based in Kabul, the capital city of Afghanistan. As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. Working week for the UN in Afghanistan is from Sunday to Thursday (for the Government from Saturday to Wednesday). Working hours in UNFPA CO are from 7 am to 3:30 pm for national staff, and from 7 am to 4 pm for international staff.
