Purpose of Activity/Assignment:

  • Carry out a mapping of innovative start-ups and initiatives in private and public sectors, including their thematic interests, risks, opportunities and trends which align to UNICEF Georgia's country programme priorities;
  • Give a general overview of the current state of innovative solutions and capacity in the country' innovation hubs, leading companies, organizations and individuals who create main trends and potentials;
  • Identify and prioritize potential partners who can assist UNICEF deliver results for children. Develop potential partners' profiles.

Scope of Work:

Fostering innovation in programming and advocacy for children is a key change strategy to achieve the ambitious targets of the UNICEF Strategic Plan to help realize the child-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

UNICEF defines innovation as a new or significantly improved solution that contributes to progress for children and accelerates results for children or young people, to match today's challenges with tomorrow's solutions.

The UNICEF Global Innovation Strategy and Framework aims to align innovation with UNICEF's overall strategic goals and focus on solving problems to accelerate progress for children. With this aim, UNICEF collaborates with young problem solvers and their communities, private sector companies, academic partners, governments, NGOs and others.

In its new Country Programme Document for 2021-2025, one of UNICEF Georgia's strategies for achieving specific results for children will be harnessing innovation and collecting new partnerships with public and private sector, communities, young people and children.

Methodology

Desk review, interviews with key stakeholders, qualitative data to be collected through face to face in-depth interviews with key partners and companies.

The report on the innovation landscape mapping should include the following components:

  • Executive summary of the key insights and the innovation landscape deduced from the mapping study;
  • Background & context that provides the innovation-related context of Georgia, characteristics of Georgia's technological and digital capacities, as well as the discussion on the potential projects and partnerships for UNICEF;
  • A description of the innovation initiatives, including companies and start-ups, associations, foundations, agencies and other entities of relevance;
  • Recommendations on viable innovation strategies that UNICEF can employ in Georgia for amplifying its existing strategic directions to deliver programming results.

Activities and Tasks:

  • Carry out consultations with UNICEF;
  • Develop a mapping roadmap;
  • Get familiar with UNICEF Global Innovation Strategy and Framework;
  • Carry out a mapping (covering key companies, initiatives, start-ups, influencers, foundations, business associations and networks);
  • Develop an overview of innovation landscape in the country;
  • Update UNICEF Georgia's partner contact list/database.
  • Provide mapping report.

    Responsibilities

UNICEF's responsibilities include timely provision of all required information, guidance and feedback on all deliverables.

The selected consultant is expected to provide products as per defined tasks and deliverables, and revise them based on feedback to be provided by UNICEF.

Location : Home based

QUALIFICATION AND COMPETENCIES.

Education:

Advanced University degree in the field of ICT, business administration, social sciences or any other relevant field

Knowledge/Expertise/Skills required:

Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in a relevant field;

Previous experience in carrying out mapping, as well as in developing partnership and resource mobilization strategies;

Fluency in written and spoken English;

Good knowledge of the innovation landscape in Georgia.

Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
