This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the IOM Chief of Mission or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer will:

Contribute to the migration policy-development process for the country through close liaison with the government counterparts and other relevant stakeholders, dissemination of IOM policies and positions, promotion of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM), the migration related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; • Assist the IOM Chief of Mission and the relevant mission colleagues on inter-agency coordination, support and ensure active rollout and implementation of National UN Networks to establish IOM’s strong leadership role in the area of migration and development, in coordination with the Resident Coordinator’s Office and partner agencies; • Provide migration policy support to and develop the capacity of States and other relevant stakeholders including the promotion and rollout of migration governance trainings for IOM staff, UN Country Team (UNCT) as well as government officials and key actors; • Support mainstreaming of migration policy and governance issues in the national development plan IOM projects and in the work of UNCT, including the updated Common Country Analysis (CCA); • Liaise with the IOM Regional Office, and Regional UN Network on Migration, Issue Based Coalition on Migration, Task Force on COVID-19 and Migration/Mobility and other regional coordination mechanisms, ensuring regional migration governance initiatives are rolled out at national level; • National level outreach on the International Migration Review Forum (IMRF) including the support for participation into global process, to the preparation of the GCM Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) and promotion of whole-of-government and whole-of-society approaches throughout the GCM implementation, follow-up, and review process; • Contribute to global process, in support of the Member State, with regards to Inter-State Consultation Mechanisms, the Global Forum on Migration and Development, SDG Voluntary National Reviews, and assisting the government to actively contribute further in this regard; • Perform any other duties that may be assigned.

Bachelor degree or equivalent in policy development and analysis, international relations, international development

The duty station will be Tunis, the Tunisian capital with lots to offer and attractive living conditions. In Tunis people can enjoy a pleasant quality of life in terms of access to historical sites, exhibition halls with hart craft, art galleries, shopping centres, spa, health facilities, cultural events, etc. Tunisia is a touristic destination for over a million people yearly and women are treated with respect and feel free and at ease. Arabic and French are the two most spoken languages in Tunisia. Italian and English are also spoken. Signage and most signs are bilingual (Arabic and French). Tunisia has an area of 163,155 km2, 1,298 km of coastline. The climate is Mediterranean (semi-arid in the interior, arid in the south). Average temperatures are as follows: December 11.4°C, July 29.3°C. Population is 11.7 million inhabitants (INS 2020 figures). A part for Tunis you can visit major cities like Sfax, Sousse, Beja, Bizerte, Jendouba, Gabes, El Kef, Nabeul, Medenine, and Kairouan. IOM has offices in Sfax and Zarzis too. The country code is 216 + 8 digit number. The currency is the Tunisian Dinar (TND). The Tunisian Dinar is divided into 1000 millimes. It cannot be imported or exported. Traveller's checks accepted 1 Euro = about 3.31 TND (April 2021). The international airports are: Tunis, Monastir, Djerba, Sfax, Tabarka, Tozeur, Gafsa, Gabes, Enfidha-Hammamet.
