You have:

About the Program:
The Natural Resources Governance and Policy program group at WRI focuses on promoting legal and policy measures, as well as decision-support data and analysis tools, to combat illegality in the exploitation and trade in natural resources, with a particular focus on forest and marine ecosystems. Constituent programs include the Forest Governance and Policy Program and the Nature Crime Alliance. Details for both can be found on their respective websites.
This position is hybrid and will require a few days per week in our Washington DC office.
What you will do:
In this role you will conduct legal research on key existing and emerging provisions of both U.S. law and Indonesian law related to investigation, prosecution and sanctioning of nature crime. You will be supported by staff across the Natural Resources Governance and Policy program cluster in WRI's global offices (Washington DC) as well as the forest legality team at WRI Indonesia (Jakarta). You will report to WRI's Director, Natural Resources Governance and Policy programs.
Internship Learning Outcomes:
- You will be taking a "deep dive" into realms of U.S. law and regulation relevant for nature crime, including laws of general application relevant to the issue (e.g., financial crime, sanctions, human rights law, etc.).
- You will have the opportunity to meet and interact directly with U.S. government officials from relevant agencies such as the Departments of State and Justice and the US Agency for International Development.
- You will also support ongoing cooperative work on forest legality being carried out by WRI's global and Indonesia offices, focusing in particular on illegal logging and illegal forest land conversion.

Compensation
The pay for this internship opportunity is $20/hour for undergrads; $22/hour for graduates and $24/hour for PhD students.
Length of Contract:
This is a full-time, 6-month internship with a flexible start and end date.
Location:
- This is a hybrid internship that will be based out of our Washington D.C. office. You will be required to work in the Washington DC office at least 8 days per month.
- WRI will provide a laptop for the duration of your internship.
