UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.

Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

And we never give up.

For every child, Education

How can you make a difference?

The fundamental mission of UNICEF is to promote the rights of every child, everywhere, in everything the organization does — in programs, advocacy, and operations. The equity strategy, emphasizing the most disadvantaged and excluded children and families, translates this commitment to children’s rights into action. For UNICEF, equity means that all children have an opportunity to survive, develop and reach their full potential without discrimination, bias, or favoritism. To the degree that any child has an unequal chance in life — in its social, political, economic, civic, and cultural dimensions — their rights are violated. There is growing evidence that investing in the health, education, and protection of a society’s most disadvantaged citizens — addressing inequity — will not only give all children the opportunity to fulfill their potential but also lead to sustained growth and stability of countries. This is why the focus on equity is so vital. It accelerates progress towards realizing the human rights of all children, which is the universal mandate of UNICEF, as outlined by the Convention on the Rights of the Child while supporting nations' equitable development.

Strategic office context:

As part of the Supply Division's strategic initiatives to strengthen the professional capacity of UNICEF Supply Community (i.e., supply and logistics staff) globally and UNICEF's initiatives to support the capacity development of Government counterparts and partners, the Supply Community Learning & Development Team enhances the capacity of staff working in all regions in the UNICEF Supply Function so that they can work effectively, respond to challenges, and ensure that supplies make their way across the globe every day to reach children in need.

The Supply Community Learning & Development team is mandated to support formal and informal learning and promote sharing, uptake, application, and adaptation of supply-related knowledge and global Organizational knowledge and culture.

The team also supports the design and delivery of online, live, and blended learning activities in close collaboration with other Centres in Supply Division. The team helps staff scope new projects, identify suitable methodologies, technologies, and production methods, and guides them through the process that leads to the publishing and effective launch of their initiative through UNICEF’s LMS (Agora).

The Learning and Development Specialist will design and develop learning initiatives, coordinate and organize learning events, manage and maintain the Supply Community Learning Channel on UNICEF’s LMS, and facilitate a broad range of learning experiences. In particular, the Learning and Development Specialist will perform:

  • Coordination of a broad range of learning initiatives to UNICEF supply and logistics staff and partners in Copenhagen and field offices contributing to strengthening supply chains for children.

  • Manage the design, development, and publication of self-paced e-learning programmes, including initial analysis and planning, instructional design, timeline management, quality, and scope control (content, budget, timelines, and objectives).
  • Use instructional design methodologies and work with subject matter experts to design new learning content/initiatives or to adapt existing ones. Maximize learning impact by using best practices in adult learning and adopting the latest learning technologies and tools when appropriate.
  • Maintain, curate, and expand the Supply Community Learning Channel on UNICEF’s LMS, based on the needs identified in the 2022 Learning Needs Analysis.
  • In collaboration with the Learning Manager, support the definition of Learning Pathways for the Supply Community.
  • Ensure effective organization and coordination of learning events scheduled in Copenhagen and field offices. Liaise with key stakeholders in the field offices as necessary.
  • Implement opportunities for on-the-job learning, including coaching and mentoring, when possible.
  • Evaluate and assess learning programmes according to the learning evaluation strategy. Oversee the maintenance of the Learning PowerBI dashboard and related database.
  • Facilitate face-to-face, virtual, and blended learning events and conversations in support of learning in close cooperation with subject matter experts.
  • Establish and cultivate a vibrant, enthusiastic, and living learning environment, including developing a culture of mutual respect and openness in any learning activity.
  • Moderate social learning and facilitate discussions among participants or groups of colleagues or partners to maximize sharing of knowledge and experiences.
