Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Labor Safety Officer (Engineer)

About the job

The role of Safety Officer (Safety Engineer) - to guarantee safety, preservation of working capacity and health of employees of the Organization during tasks and duties performance. 40% work time travel to the areas in Ukraine.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Controls adherence by the departments of the Organization norms of the current legislation, rules, standards, provisions, instructions on labour protection, industrial sanitation, fire protection and environmental protection.
  • Develops instructions on labour protection, training programs for workers, organizes training of the employees of the Organization about the rules of safe working methods, industrial sanitation, fire protection and environmental protection.
  • Conducts instruction (training) on labour protection of employees of the Organization, organizes testing of their knowledge.
  • Carries out constant control over observance by workers of requirements concerning labour protection.
  • Participates in the investigation of cases of occupational injuries, occupational or non-occupational diseases, studies their causes, analyses the effectiveness of implemented measures to prevent them.
  • Organizes and monitors the timely passage of periodic medical examinations of employees of all categories subject to medical examination (engaged in heavy work and work with harmful and dangerous working conditions or those where there is a need for professional selection).
  • Prepares drafts of orders, instructions and directives on labour protection.
  • Provides methodological assistance to officials and specialists in the development of measures and regulations in line with labour protection norms of the Organization.
  • Checks the state of safety, occupational health, industrial sanitation in the organization
  • Develops a plan of comprehensive measures to achieve the established standards of safety, occupational health, industrial sanitation
  • Controls the organization of storage, publication, washing, dry cleaning, drying, dedusting, degreasing and repair of special clothing, special footwear and other personal protective equipment, the condition of safety devices and protective devices. Prepares reports on labour protection according to the established forms and in the corresponding terms.
  • Participates in the consideration of the issue of compensation by the employer for the damage caused to employees by injury, occupational disease or other damage to health related to the performance of their duties

Required experience and competencies

  • University degree: University degree in “Civil security ".
  • Minimum 3 years of work experience as Safety Engineer.
  • Languages: Ukrainian, Russian, English basic or intermediate level.
  • Computer literacy: Excellent skill in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

We offer

  • Contract length: 3 months extended based on performance.
  • Band: H1.
  • Designation of Duty Station: Kyiv (Roving). 40% work time travel to the areas in Ukraine****.
  • Start date: As soon as possible****.

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for national staff
