Supply Division translates children’s human rights into action by enhancing access to the essential supplies and services needed for children to survive, thrive and realize their human rights and full potential. Together with public and private partners, UNICEF identifies bottlenecks or gaps in markets and works to address these with long-term sustainable solutions – regardless of whether challenges are related to product features, delivery systems and capacities, or local and global disruptions. In 2022, UNICEF procured more than $7.3 billion worth of essential, life-saving supplies and services for children, and works in partnership to influence markets, strengthening supply chain systems and tackle disruptions.

Within Supply Division’s Strategy, Partnerships & Knowledge Exchange Centre (SPKC), the Country Support and Knowledge Management Unit manages the Division’s knowledge management function. This includes, identifying solutions for operational bottlenecks, compiling good practices, managing internal knowledge in SD’s intranet and SharePoint pages, disseminating knowledge and tools, handling enquiries from country offices and promoting knowledge exchanges across UNICEF’s global supply and logistics network, and the Supply Community. The Unit also supports the Division in its engagement with the supply teams in UNICEF’s seven regions.

UNICEF Supply Division (SD) is looking for a UN Volunteer who supports UNICEF’s mission, is passionate about Knowledge Management, and is ready to help promote exchange of knowledge on supply chains across the Supply Community.

The UN Volunteer will be based in the Country Support and Knowledge Management Unit in SPKC, and report initially to the Strategic Planning Manager, and later to the head of the unit. The UN Volunteer is expected to work closely with other SD Centres and HQ Divisions on finding solutions to problems, and best practices that can be applied to SD.

Under the direct supervision of the Strategic Planning Manager and later the head of KM and Country Support Unit, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

Supply intranet (focus on content external to Supply Division): coordinate improvements to the supply intranet, including but not limited to: (1) identifying outdated materials; (2) managing and updating content; (3) providing support to the intranet steering committee; (4) monitoring usage; (5) collecting feedback from users and producing reports; and (6) proposing and implementing improvements in the structure, design, flow of information and management of content.

SharePoint sites (focus on content internal to Supply Division): coordinate improvement in the supply intranet, including, but not limited to: (1) identifying best practices in managing content and information flow; (2) proposing changes in how SharePoint sites are managed in SD, including the SD collaboration site; (3) monitoring and managing the SD Collaboration Site; (4) providing technical support to SD centres on how to use the SharePoint structure; and (5) monitoring SharePoint usage, evaluating and proposing changes in document storage and information management within SD SharePoint structure

Innovations in data and information management, communication, and visualization: support the SPKC team by: (1) proposing and developing solutions to data storage, visualization, and easy communication (infographics, dashboards, PowerBI and PowerApps models, etc.); (2) exploring the use of Artificial intelligence in the functions being implemented by the Centre and in Supply Division; and (3) creating innovative solutions for information and data management and visualization.

The UN Volunteer will assist in collecting, analysing/synthesizing, documenting, organizing, packaging, visualizing, and communicating/sharing supply chain information and knowledge, as well as promoting the use of information and knowledge. Knowledge management is cross-sectoral, and the UN Volunteer will thus provide support to all other teams and functions in the division.

Data and Information Management, Knowledge Management and / or Internal Communication are preferred. Knowledge of Supply Chain Management, Humanitarian Emergency Preparedness and Response (supply-related preferably) is desirable.

Additional preferred competencies/skill sets:

• Ability to implement clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies, identify priority activities and assignments and adjust priorities as required. • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (PowerBi, PowerApps, Excel, Word, etc.) and content management tools (e.g., SharePoint). • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines. • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills. • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners. • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel.

The UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging for his/her own housing, transport, and other living essentials.

UN Volunteer entitlements and allowances: The purpose of the allowances and entitlements paid to UN Volunteers is to enable UN Volunteers to sustain a secure standard of living at the duty stations in line with United Nations standards without incurring personal costs. The allowances are in no way to be understood as compensation, reward, or salary in exchange for the UN Volunteer’s service. Leave entitlements: Annual leave: 2.5 days accrued per calendar month Certified sick leave: UN Volunteers are entitled to up to 30 days of certified sick leave based on a 12-month cycle.
