Supply Division translates children’s human rights into action by enhancing access to the essential supplies and services needed for children to survive, thrive and realize their human rights and full potential. Together with public and private partners, UNICEF identifies bottlenecks or gaps in markets and works to address these with long-term sustainable solutions – regardless of whether challenges are related to product features, delivery systems and capacities, or local and global disruptions. In 2022, UNICEF procured more than $7.3 billion worth of essential, life-saving supplies and services for children, and works in partnership to influence markets, strengthening supply chain systems and tackle disruptions.

Within Supply Division’s Strategy, Partnerships & Knowledge Exchange Centre (SPKC), the Country Support and Knowledge Management Unit manages the Division’s knowledge management function. This includes, identifying solutions for operational bottlenecks, compiling good practices, disseminating knowledge and tools, handling enquiries from country offices and promoting knowledge exchanges across UNICEF’s global supply and logistics network, and the Supply Community. The Unit also supports the Division in its engagement with the supply teams in UNICEF’s seven regions.

UNICEF Supply Division is looking for a UNV who supports UNICEF’s mission, is passionate about Knowledge Management, and is ready to help promote exchange of knowledge on supply chains across the Supply Community.

The UNV will be based in the Country Support and Knowledge Management Unit in SPKC, and report to the head of the unit.

Starting as soon as possible, the UNV will support the implementation of Supply Division’s Supply Chain Knowledge Management Framework and its action plan, with the overall objective of fostering effective knowledge management systems and practices, particularly peer-to-peer, and deepening the understanding of supply chains amongst critical stakeholders.

The UNV will assist in collecting, analyzing/synthesizing, documenting, organizing, packaging, visualizing, and communicating/sharing supply chain information and knowledge, as well as promoting the use of information and knowledge. Knowledge management is cross-sectoral, and the UNV will thus provide support to all other teams and functions in the division.

Under the direct supervision of the head of KM and Country Support Unit, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks to support the implementation of the Supply KM Framework and its action plan:

• Supports knowledge sharing within the Supply Community, including cross-country and cross-thematic knowledge sharing through different channels. • Support knowledge-generating activities and propose innovative ways in which the office can better document its lessons learned and good practices and provide support in the actual documentation of lessons learned and good practices. • Identify knowledge gaps through the Helpdesk platform and support the team in exploring ways to fill the gaps. • Support analysis and visualization (including maps if possible) of the Supply Community data to support planning and strategic communication and reporting. • Help develop strategic briefs/reports and project proposals based on data analysis and visualization. • Provide support to improve internal processes of capturing, storing, and sharing information by maintaining the office SharePoint Intranet site and helping promote the use thereof. • Help identify opportunities for streamlining processes and collaborating more efficiently • Depending on time and skill set, the UNV may also support coordinating Supply-related events and preparing larger meetings at the UNICEF Supply Division and elsewhere.

Internal Communication and / or with some expertise related to Knowledge Management are preferred. Knowledge of Supply Chain Management, Humanitarian Emergency Preparedness and Response (supply-related preferably) is desirable.

The UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging for his/her own housing, transport, and other living essentials.

UN Volunteer entitlements and allowances: The purpose of the allowances and entitlements paid to UN Volunteers is to enable UN Volunteers to sustain a secure standard of living at the duty stations in line with United Nations standards without incurring personal costs. The allowances are in no way to be understood as compensation, reward, or salary in exchange for the UN Volunteer’s service.
