ESARO provides programmatic support and oversight to Multi and Country Offices (M/COs) and collaborates with regional institutions to achieve the objectives. This support includes knowledge management and research-related technical support.

UN Women's Knowledge Management and Research Unit at ESARO employs a systematic approach to knowledge management in order to become a learning organization which is recognized as a leading knowledge broker in Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) within the region. To achieve this vision, the unit actively creates opportunities, develops and uses systems, products, and approaches to support knowledge management and promote research, generation of evidence, data generation, and evidenced-based policy advocacy with M/COs, governments, regional economic communities, partners, and stakeholders.

The unit leverages on the available innovative Knowledge Management opportunities to enhance the ability of UN Women’s achievement of gender equality and empower all women and girls including full enjoyment of their human rights in the region. To do this, the unit also deploys Knowledge Management strategies in programmatic, policy, and operational work ensuring that women participate in and benefit from governance systems, and that women have improved income security, live in a world free from all forms of violence, and contribute to building sustainable peace as well as being resilient in crisis. The unit anchors its work on a Regional Knowledge Management Strategy which guides all related interventions for the UN Women strategic period 2022-2025. The Strategy guides the regional knowledge management and research interventions as a critical enabler in sustaining and advancing the momentum for GEWE in the context of agenda 2030 on Sustainable Development and the Africa Union agenda 2063.

The unit is led by a Knowledge Management and Research Specialist based in Nairobi Kenya. Due to the increasing demand and needs of the unit, it is recruiting a National UN Volunteer to help with the implementation of the regional Knowledge Management Strategy 2022-2025.

Under the direct supervision of the Knowledge Management and Research Specialist the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

Support the Implementation of KM Strategy:

· Support the implementation of a knowledge management approach and strategy for the East and Southern Africa Region aimed at enhancing knowledge sharing and delivering of planned results; · Support the quality assurance of R/M/COs knowledge products and processes including plagiarism checks, compliance with citations, referencing and alignment to language style guide and editorial style guide; · Maintain and update regularly the knowledge hub and the Strategic Documents Repository hosted on the UN Women intranet, keep up to date the relevant intranet pages to maximize resource inputs for country offices, mobilizing knowledge resources from M/COs and updating on the platforms accordingly to increase access and utilization and peer learning by M/COs. Also ensure the ESARO Share Point page is interactive and more relevant to readers. · Support in developing presentations and other materials required for learning and knowledge meetings; · Support documentation of research results and feedback of publications; · Flags opportunities for funding and thematic knowledge development.

Publications Editing and Design:

· Supports editorial management and content scheduling of all online/web spaces (internet, intranet, extranet, etc.) for the ESARO Region including partnerships with relevant partners for dissemination on their virtual platforms. · Contribute to drafting of a variety of texts, including case studies, success stories, good and promising practices. · Participate in proof-reading, data-checking and providing comments on draft chapters and sections of reports and other knowledge products as required while ensuring alignment to corporate style guides.

Supports knowledge sharing within ESARO, including cross-country and cross thematic knowledge sharing through networks and communities of practice:

· Innovates and engages on new technology (multi-media) opportunities to receive, capture and share knowledge; · Addresses impediments to sharing information and the flow of knowledge, facilitate demand and supply of knowledge; · Support the development of online tools, surveys and other pilot projects, including those oriented toward collaboration and learning; · Develop dissemination strategies for knowledge products and support in relevant dissemination mechanisms; · In collaboration with the communications unit, ensure that multi/ country and regional knowledge products are timely disseminated up to and including on UN Women global and regional websites and social media; · Perform other tasks to support the work of the knowledge management and research team as required.

Provide Administrative Support to the Knowledge Management Unit:

· Create projects in Quantum system, prepare budget revisions, revise project awards and status. · Provide administrative support in monitoring and preparation of budget; · Process payment for consultants, as delegated; · Create requisitions and register receipts in Quantum system; · Undertake all logistical, administrative and financial arrangements for organization for meetings, workshops, events, and missions; · Draft minutes in meetings, as delegated.

Results/Expected Outputs:

· Updated virtual platforms-Knowledge Hub, Strategic Documents Repository; · Technical web content developed and posted on the Africa website; · Quality assurance process managed to achieve results in line with UN Women corporate publication policies; · KM administrative and project support achieved; · The development of capacity through coaching, mentoring and formal on-the-job training, when working with (including supervising) national staff or (non-) governmental counterparts, including Implementing Partners (IPs); · Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment; · A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed.
