UNDP has been supporting the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change in meeting its national and international environmental priorities and commitments. These include close to 40 projects in areas of biodiversity conservation, sustainable resource management, climate change and chemical management. UNDP’s support focuses on technical and policy advisory, institutional strengthening and building capacities of various stakeholders to utilize natural resources in a sustainable way, while increasing resilience to climate variability and associated risks and impacts.

UNDP supports Green Climate Fund (GCF) financed project “Enhancing Climate Resilience of India’s Coastal Communities” (PIMS 5991 /GCF FP084) implemented through the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEFCC), central ministries and the nodal departments of the target state governments. The project is implemented in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Maharashtra, to enhance the resilience of vulnerable coastal communities to climate change through ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA).

This project as well contributes towards the achievement of climate priorities outlined in India’s National Action Plan on Climate Change (2008), the State Action Plans, as well as commitments outlined in India’s Nationally Determined Contributions (2015). The Climate Change, Resilience and Energy portfolio at UNDP is currently working in various thematic areas of climate change adaptation and mitigation; disaster management and resilience; and access to clean and efficient energy. The project works at national, state and community levels to enhance capacities for ecosystem-based approaches to climate change adaptation and enable climate policy and finance shifts to catalyse climate action in all of India’s coastal states and union territories. UNDP seeks a National Specialist UN volunteer that supports implementation of the project, through monitoring and reporting of the project activities in the target landscapes. They will also support the team in the upcoming Indian Presidency of G20, especially the Ocean track. The Volunteer will report to the National Project Coordinator (NPC), GCF Coastal Project – India, and shall be closely working with the other National Project Management Unit (NPMU) and State Project Management Unit (SPMU) staff members.

• Support in compilation and documentation of the good practices and case studies on enhanc-ing climate resilience of India’s coastal communities. • Create a repository of key highlights / viewpoints on issues discussed in G20 meetings and oth-er subsidiary meetings on climate change negotiations • Support the team in identifying the main issues pertaining to the Oceans Track of G20, its im-portance and analysis of viewpoints of the countries • Support the team in developing reports / discussion papers for the Government of India for G20. • Support the project team in conducting research and reviewing discussion papers / articles on topics such as “climate and SDGs”, adaptation and resilience, climate finance and technology. • Perform any other tasks assigned from time to time by the Supervisor.
