BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. WFP is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, saving lives in emergencies and using food assistance to build a pathway to peace, stability and prosperity for people recovering from conflict, disasters and the impact of climate change. Around 20,000 people work for the organization, most of them in remote areas, directly serving the hungry poor.

ShareTheMeal is WFP’s fundraising and awareness-raising app. Free to download, the award-winning app is a pioneering way for people to join our efforts in creating a world with zero hunger. ShareTheMeal was launched in 2015 as the first pilot of WFP’s Innovation Accelerator, which among other things supports start-ups and innovators in developing their ideas for zero hunger.

ShareTheMeal currently has more than 4 million users worldwide, who have shared more than 94million meals (over US$ 46 million). WFP is pursuing an ambitious growth strategy for individual giving, and ShareTheMeal is a key driver for this strategy going forward. The team, located in Berlin, is focused on further developing the app to include new and innovative features, and on increasing the engagement of existing users and growing the user base through marketing and communication initiatives.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Consultant, reporting to the People Operations Manger for the ShareTheMeal initiative, is expected to:

  1. Support implementation of the HR strategy, working with People Operations Manager
  2. Assist with day-to-day recruiting and HR processes
    1. Support contracting process, working closely with INK Business Support and the Human Resources Division for both new appointments and reappointments
    2. Support ongoing people operations processes (e.g. onboarding, reboarding, offboarding) and administration required for it
    3. Support full-cycle recruitment process, including development of candidate pipeline and facilitating interviewing process
  3. Assist with the organisation of internal and external meetings/events
  4. Provide assistance with team engagement initiatives for ShareTheMeal and work closely with other units where appropriate
  5. Provide administrative support for the ShareTheMeal initiative and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders

DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:

  • Smooth recruiting and HR processes
  • Team engagement activities with a measurable impact on retention and engagement

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree is preferred

Experience:

1+ year of related experience in operations, recruiting/HR, project management or a demonstrable track record of leveraging similar skillsets in other areas

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Knowledge of HR and TA processes and administration

    • Strong analytical abilities, both quantitative and qualitative; ability to produce high-quality written materials, including graphically-based PowerPoint presentations as well as text documents
    • Ability to interact with managers with maturity and tact
    • Mature judgment with strong interpersonal skills
    • Collaborative spirit able to liaise with a wide range of people at all levels and across different cultures and to act with credibility and diplomacy
    • Strong time management skills with an ability to plan ahead, anticipate requirements, problems and obstacles, and an ability to juggle competing priorities successfully, and to work to tight deadlines
    • Self-motivated and able to work with a high degree of autonomy
    • Fully committed and motivated to achieve the aims of the World Food Programme English

    Languages:

    Excellent verbal and written language skills in English, with clear, consistent

communication. Knowledge of German is a plus
